Doin’ the Congo Bongo!

Our newest review is for a site called In Kristine’s Shower, a business created in 2002 from the discovery of something new, the need for a wedding gift and the passion of one woman to step out and follow a brand new dream!
I received several yummy looking products and couldn’t wait to dive into the testing for this review. Everything was packaged extremely well and arrived super fast! Jenny’s labels are cute as can be. They are bright and colorful and really suit her products and showcase the talent and creativity of the owner.

The products sent to me for testing were:

  1. Aloe Vera Body Whip (Congo Bongo)
  2. Bath Bomb (Cherry Berry)
  3. 100% Soap (Lush)
  4. Shea Butter Sorbet (Sweet Cotton Breeze)
  5. Body Frosting Sugar Scrub (Orange Dream)
  6. Soy Melties (Spellbound)

Soooo, let’s get on with the review!

~*~Aloe Vera Body Whip~*~
Oh my goodness! This stuff is AWESOME! First off, the fragrance, Congo Bongo, is to die for as were all the fragrances I got to test. It has a decidedly Tropical Rum scent. The name suits it perfectly. The body whip is the neatest thing. It has a cream in the center, like the Shea Butter Sorbet, with strips of aloe vera gel on the sides. In the jar, it is sort of striped looking. So cool! When you scoop some out to apply it, you do get some of all of it. The aloe combines with the cream and it all rubs in wonderfully. It is marketed on the site for sun bathers and outdoorsmen who need to moisturize their skin. Well I’m not sunburned but I did have a horrible blister burst on my finger. I used the aloe whip on it and immediately felt relief! It softened the dry skin where the blister had been. It is now smooth and back to normal! I have also been using it on my winter-time dry feet. AMAZING results!

NO chemical preservatives! What? How? Jenny uses grain alcohol as her preservative of choice. You read that right, plain old grain alcohol. And you know what? It works! I have had my goddies in the bathroom. I KNOW water has more than likely gotten into my sugar scrub. Are there any nasties growing in any of it? NOPE! Not any. Jenny has done EXTENSIVE testing of different preservatives with her products and the commercial chemical stuff always fails her VERY high standards of what her products should provide. I am in agreement too because her results are fabulous!

~*~Bath Bombs~*~

Ok, at first I thought, Oh yay another bath bomb……BUT……I have never ever used a bath bomb like this one. Sure it had the usual fizz and colored my water a lovely reddish pink. It scented the water and softened the water. But there was more! I thought to myself, ‘What the heck is that wonderful feeling to the water?’ So I got the packaging and read the ingredients list. Shea butter, coconut & palm oils and other goodies listed. OOH LA LA! THIS was one heck of a bath bomb. My water was silky and scrumptious and I felt like I had dove into a pool of silky, glorious lotion! I even did the dreaded task of shaving my legs :0) but did not need one drop of lotion afterwards!!! HUGE kudos on this product! They are marketed as ‘The Bath Bomb Capital of the Web’ and believe me, I can totally see why!

~*~100% Soap~*~
Ok on the first two washes I was a little bit disappointed. Not that the soap itself wasn’t great. It was and it smelled fantastic. To me, Lush has a pine scent. On site it is described as Green clover & aloe. It is a very nice, woodsy, comforting fragrance. And the bar was exceptionally hard which is what you want so it doesn’t just melt away in the shower. But the first two times it didn’t seem like it wanted to lather and the colorings, (micas and oxides) bled. I expected the bleeding of the colorings the first few times though so that was no bog deal to me. They wash right off, no problem, and they haven’t bled since. But on the third time, the lather became a rich and creamy texture. Not a fluffy bubbly lather like you might be used to, but a nice, thick almost lotion-like lather with some bubbly goodness peaking through. It has skin loving shea butter in it like the other products do so this lends to that silky lather that I got. This bar has been used repeatedly for hand washing and is still as hard and full bodied as the first time it was used. It is very moisturizing and I am very happy with the results. Another great product!

~*~Shea Butter Sorbet~*~
Like the Aloe Vera Whip, the Shea Butter Sorbet proved to be a skin loving treat. I have been using it on my hands and legs. My hands feel soft and my legs have not had any winter, dry-skin itchiness. The fragrance is wonderful too. Sweet and yummy! I would say this is a must have for daily use. If you need a hand cream, this is it! I would save the Aloe Vera Whip for summertime when your skin is exposed to the sun or in my case with a blister and/or dry feet, and use the sorbet regularly throughout the year. Keep it by your desk if you type a lot or in your bathroom with your morning regime, and use it daily.

~*~Body Frosting Sugar Scrub~*~
If you like sugar scrubs, you are going to LOVE this! It also has the goodness of shea butter and unlike most scrubs, it is NOT oily! You do not have to mix and mix it to use it. It scoops right out and rubs into the skin. I used it after shaving my legs (except for the day of the bath bomb) and it made my legs feel so good. Mine was an Orange Dreamcicle scent. Delicious to the nose! I don’t think I have ever used a sugar scrub that melted into my skin. Most just exfoliate and crumble into the tub, or leave an oily residue behind. Not this one. It was THE perfect scrub in my opinion!

~*~Soy Melties~*~
These little wax melts are darling! Mine is called ‘Spellbound’ and smells EXACTLY like a name brand body spray I have that also has the word ‘spell’ in it. (also the word ‘love’ if you catch my drift :0) !) It melted nicely in my warmer and the scent throw is AMAZING! It scented my entire house rather quickly too and the fragrance lasts! I have burned it everyday for a week but really didn’t have to because the cold scent throw works pretty well too and like I said the scent really lasts.

Jenny, I don’t know how you did it, but you have come up with some super fabulous bath and body products! I give two thumbs up!!!

What are you? I’m a feminist housewife and didn’t know it!

So… are you a feminist? If you are a woman, a mommy who works from home, runs a family and has decided that the world doesn’t dictate your life, then you bet your skivvies you are! And you might not even realize it!

I admit, when Erin of Feminist Housewives asked me to review her site, I was a little bit unnerved. I really have no idea why. But the thought of being called a feminist terrified me.
Bra-burning, man hating, I’m better than any man feminist… NO WAY!
I-I-I’m a housewife! I stay at home with my children, cook, clean, take care of my husband, …… run four websites, two blogs, a topsite, banner exchange, advertising forum, plugboard directory, toolbar, rep for several companies…. PHEW! I’m out of breath!

Then it hit me right smack in the head…

‘WHOA there Crystal! Back up, rethink this whole feminist thing. Learn about it, girl!

So I began to think that maybe, just maybe Erin had hit onto something and I AM a feminist AND a HOUSEWIFE! But what exactly does that mean and how can her site help me to understand it all better?

Here is a little excerpt from her site:
‘Feminism is sometimes referred to as the second ‘f’ word There’s a famous quote that might help you make sense of things:
I’m not a feminist, but…
I appreciate the right to help choose my government representatives. I enjoy the option of wearing pants or shorts if I want. I’m pleased that I was allowed to learn to read and write. It can be very convenient to control how many babies I want to have. It’s awfully useful to be able to open a bank account and own property in my name. I like knowing that my husband or boyfriend cannot legally beat me. It’s really swell to keep the money that I earn.
- One Angry Girl

Erin’s site is relatively new but growing by leaps & bounds. She covers attachment parenting, body and gender issues, as well as green-living and feminism in the media.

There are lists of articles, resources and books to explain what being a feminist housewife is.
She has an entire community of women willing to chime in and discuss anything and everything related to being a feminist housewife. I can’t even begin to describe in this little review everything she covers and just how ‘real’ it all is. Everything I read made perfect sense.

The Feminist Housewives site is extremely well laid out and perfectly designed with a notepaper theme. You can tell from the get-go that a lot of hard work and research has gone into its creation and that it is only going to get bigger and better.

Miss Erin, while I do still teeter somewhat on the edge concerning some things….ok, not as many as you think,:0),
You have most definitely opened my eyes to the role I play in my family and have made me proud to say that
YES! I am a Feminist Housewife!!!!

WOO HOO! You made it to the bottom of my blog... rock on supa-star!
