Get Moving: Family Fitness Wii Video Game Review

WOW! I have had a GREAT cardio workout this week! As you know, I’ve been searching for easy fitness options for overweight beginners, like myself. I’m on a quest to get up off my hiney, move more and lose this extra weight once and for all. I’ve reviewed several products and games that are fantastic and work wonderfully but I’m always searching for things can work together and be switched in and out to combat exercise boredom.

Brooke Burke, of Dancing With the Stars and Modern Mom AND a mom of 4, has teamed up with Jump Start to create a family fitness game that gets you up off the couch and moving. Get Moving: Family Fitness for Wii. You can’t sit to play this game. It just won’t work. I was up and moving and enjoying every minute of it. And because it is sports themed, it is more like playing and less like actual exercising but you are still getting the workout.

There are 15 different sports challenges. 3 minute boxing, 6 minute marathon, basketball, running for a touchdown,  hitting a baseball, volleyball and bicycling are just a few in this game and each one gets your heart pumping. So I strapped on my Belly Burner (that thing rocks!) and got to work. I found boxing to be one of my favorites and on day two my arms were SORE! I could really feel it. As the week progressed, I changed the level from Easy to medium, then to the hard level. Because there are 3 difficulty levels, you’re not stuck trying to do a “one size fits all” routine. The entire family can play this game and you can play with just your Wii Nunchuck and Controller OR you can use the Balance Board. But you don’t have to have the Balance Board to play.

Not only are there 3 difficulty levels, there are many different arenas to play. 11 to be exact! Play volleyball against cows on the farm or in Atlantis. Score a touchdown in a Bug’s View, etc. The graphics are great and capture my kids attention, making them want to join in. And the routines are fun yet powerful.

The baseball game was my least favorite. Not that it wasn’t fun but I had a really hard time getting the ball to go in the direction of the target. Maybe I’m just not good at baseball, because I’m not,  but I just couldn’t seem to master that one. Hubby had a much easier time with it than I did.
