I usually do all my scrapbooking in Paint Shop Pro but it is not always an easy task. Sure, creating the elements is easy but doing the layouts is not always. My Memories Suite is a scrapbook software designed to turn a sometimes difficult task into an easy one. I was a little skeptical. I have used scrapping software in the past that was extremely limited and so I just ended up giving up and throwing the discs in the “never-used-again” pile. I have been pleasantly surprised by the My Memories software. In fact, I am IN LOVE with it! No only does it come pre-packaged with a ton of backgrounds, elements and templates but you can use your own as well as those from other digital design elements you may have purchased elsewhere. AND they have a superb online store where you can purchase templates, backgrounds, design elements, etc. I have a discount for you at the bottom of this post as well!
Instead of doing full albums I started by doing just a few individual pages I needed for my girls scrapbooks. I also made 8.5×11 pages instead of 12×12 so I could print them on my regular printer and put them in their books. The first page I created was for my middle daughters first haircut. She was originally going to donate her hair to Locks of Love but it wasn’t quite long enough without going very short so we decided to wait until next year to donate and just get a standard cut this time. I uploaded images from my digital camera and then scanned her lock of hair they gave us, and created an embellishment out of it using PSP. Then I imported it into My Memories Suite. When I print the page out, I will attach her lock of hair over it. It was SO easy! I used scrapbook papers and elements from an existing kit that I already had. I think the colors looked great and the page turned out beautifully.
For this page, I downloaded one of the FREE templates from My Memories Suite. It is called Easy Calendar 2010. I blurred my photos in PSP after creating and saving my page just for this post. The original is not blurred. We had special dates in September for both girls and they begged me to create a countdown page for them to hang on the refrigerator. It was very easy to make and very fun.
For this page, I used one of the pre-installed scrapbook templates and just added my photos and a few of the pre-installed embellishments like bows, flowers, etc. This page was unbelievably easy to make and the background papers and design elements were perfect for my daughters first birthday party. They were so pretty and vibrant.
The uses for this software are endless. You can make scrapbook pages, recipe books, calendars, countdown pages, etc. You can print them yourself, save them as .jpeg images for the web and email like I did here or use the tools inside My Memories Suite to order photo albums, greeting cards, trading cards, movies, dvd’s. Oh my goodness there is so much you CAN do.
There are tons of tools to use like adding photos, text, creative text, shapes and embellishments. You can crop your photos, add sepia toning, blurs and more. You can move images from front to back and layer them. h ONLY thing I wish it had, which I haven’t discovered if it does, it the ability to see what layer you are on. In PSP and Photoshop, you can click on each individual layer in a special tool section without having to click the actual item. That make that layer active for editing and you don’t have to worry about accidentally moving the wrong image. i do with MMS had that. Then it would be beyond perfect. Aside from that one picky little thing, i LOVE it!
