Raisels. No there isn’t a typo in the title of this post. Raisels are yummy little raisins that do have a very light dusting of sugar on them and pack a sour punch of flavor. Although Raisels have bit of a high sugar content, most of that sugar is naturally occurring in the Raisel (golden raisin) itself. (21 of the 35 grams is naturally occurring) The added sugar is about 10% of the total weight. Compared to dried cranberries which have 5 times more added sugar per serving and one particular sweet, colorful candy containing 19 times more, this doesn’t seem like a lot in comparison.

My kids have a sweet tooth and while I usually only curb that sweet tooth with fresh fruits, I do occasionally let them have a sweet snack or candy. We, as a family, tried the Raisels and fell in love! They are both sweet and sour and very delicious and taste quite a bit like candy. The kids have asked for a pack of Raisels almost everyday even though their grandparents had bought them a package of suckers the same week. So on the days they didn’t ask for an apple or grapes, they asked for the Raisels instead of the candy. That’s a good thing, no matter how you look at it! While I am going to be cutting out the extra added sugars from my own diet, the Hubby and kids will still (for a period of time at least) enjoy a few things that contain sugar. Raisels is one of them. My kids don’t seem to have any adverse reactions with sugar so a little every now and then is allowed. They really loved these sour treats that made them pucker on the first bite!

If your child isn’t a fan of traditional raisins, this may be one way to get them to start enjoying them. Raisels are great for summer travel plans. One box is the perfect portion and they are handy and convenient. Raisels are rich in antioxidants, fat free, cholesterol free and contain no sodium OR high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. They also contain 100% of the recommended daily allowance for Vitamin C and are Kosher Certified by the Orthodox Union.

Raisels are available at most grocers in 6 packs of 1.25 oz portion-controlled boxes. look in the dried fruit section, most likely where you find regular raisins.

Available in four flavors: Sour Apple, Sour Orange, Sour Lemon (my favorite) and Sour Peach.
