Mmm mmm mmm. Nothing goes better with hot dogs than a crispy Ore-Ida french fry. I don’t get to enjoy them (or hot dogs) as often as I used to. My Dr. wants me on a limited “white” diet (few white rice, brad or potatoes) plus with the 6 week bootcamp I did and still continue to follow, the white starches are also limited.Good thing for me that Ore-Ida also has Sweet Potato fries too! Uh huh, you read that right. Yummy, super fabulous, sweet yet crispy sweet potato fries! YAY for me!

We can get the small bags at Walmart but with a family of 6, I like to buy things more in bulk. Plus, when you but the larger items at Sams Club, they are sometimes the same price as the standard size elsewhere OR it averages out to be cheaper buying it in bulk. So we recently got a membership there and that is where we headed for the Ore-ida Sweet Potato fries.

Last night was hurried and I am sick as a dog this week, again, so it was hot dog night for the family. Like I said earlier, we usually have regular french fries but I wanted to try the sweet potato fries so we bought both. I picked up a bag of Ore-Ida Crinkle Cut fries and a bag of the new Ore-Ida Sweet Potato fries.

So, we headed to our local Sams Club, picked up both bags of fries, some hot dogs and humongous jar of ‘On The Border’ salsa that my Hubby just can’t live without (it really is out of this world good), hot dog buns and condiments and then headed on our merry way. I’ve only become a fan of sweet potatoes in the last year. You couldn’t pay me to eat them as a child. But after having each of my children, my taste mysteriously changed to include one new thing each time. Odd, but totally true! So, I love sweet potatoes now but wasn’t sure I’d like these fries. I made each of the kids and hubby try them too. My son, like me, was all over them. The two older girls who are the pickiest things I’ve ever met in my life didn’t care for them. but they did eat and swallow the entire fry and didn’t gag or ask to spit it out. So I think there is hope there. My 2 year old daughter kept begging for more “carrots”. She calls everything orange a carrot. So it’s safe to say she really liked them too. She gobbled them right up and actually didn’t eat the regular fries. So she seems to be converted to the sweet potato fries. Hubby didn’t find them gross, but didn’t want them often either. He isn’t a big fan of anything sweet potato though.
Overall, I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. Seriously, I think they are delicious. They are naturally sweet. I bake my fries in the oven to make them a little bit healthier and these still came out fairly crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Had I felt better, I would have created some sort of yummy dipping sauce to go with them. Something with brown sugar and maybe cinnamon in it. I think with the sauce, they would be great as a snack or with something that a sweet dish goes well with. Like turkey at Thanksgiving. Turkey and candied yams go great together so I think that would be a good accompaniment as well.
Ok, so the Sweet Potato fries purchased at Sams Club were a success as far as I’m concerned because they were mainly for me and I love them. HA!
The only downside to me was that they are about $1 higher than the regular fries. Crinkle cut were $6.62 and the Sweet Potato fries were $7.48. So they are a bit higher.
