Satellite Internet for Rural Areas?

When we lived waaaaayyyyyyyy out in the country, we only had dial up internet. I now shudder at that thought. I’m not entirely sure the area has more than that now. Even then, dial-up was starting to be considered “old school”. But that was all there was available. If you didn’t have a landline phone but wanted internet, you were just out of luck. I think they were contemplating DSL but I’m not sure it ever made it to that area.

I’ve been thinking about what it would be like to move back home and wondered what it would be like to go back to dial-up. I can’t even fathom it! I have my blogs and traffic exchange now. Not to mention Facebook and recipes and craft tutorials and the online soapmaking lye/water/oil calculator I use for making soap. How could I possibly have all that goodness with dial-up? I couldn’t. Sure, I could still do the social media thing via my phone but the rest, not really. It is just too hard to create a full blog post via smartphone or even iPad. And even with the iPad, I’d have to tether it and use my phone as a hotspot because it is WiFi only.

So, I looked online and found a site that offers satellite internet. According to the site, I could get the high-speed internet I’d need even in that super rural area. That is AWESOME! I must learn more about this. My kiddies don’t really want to move, at least my oldest doesn’t. But I’d like to check out our internet, etc. options just in case we ever did decide to.

Have you ever used satellite internet? And if so, did you like it? And was it strictly internet or was it part of your satellite tv?
