Do you know how to remove your personal information from the internet?
Recently, we talked a little about how to search for people online and deciding what personal information you wanted online. But we didn’t discuss easy ways to remove the personal information you want to keep private.
I did a search for a friend and they were very surprised by the amount of information about them that was accessible on the internet. With a simple search of their name, I was able to access their full name, last known address and phone number as well as their spouse’s information AND their spouse’s parents information! This type of accessible information would make data theft extremely easy. That is frightening!
So, we did another search. This time, it was to find ways to remove that information. You can always email the database site that contains that info, ask them to remove it and pray they will honor your request. Or you can use a service that monitors and removes that information for you. There are sites out there that are dedicated to removing personal information from the internet.
These types of sites typically charge a minimal monthly fee. They then monitor your online information and automatically generate and send removal requests to the company who’s exposing it. This saves you time and hassle.
Have you tried these services? What do you think?
