You may remember a few weeks ago that I did a review of Polly Pocket toys. My daughters loved playing with the new Polly Pocket sets. They were really thrilled when they received a second set, the Polly Pocket Playtime Pet Shop Play Set as well as the Polly Pocket Friends Finish First DVD.
Polly Pocket has been a long time favorite in our household. I remember them from when I was younger. Only now, they are a little bit larger and some, like the ones I reviewed last, have suction cups to let them stay on the play sets better.
The pet shop set is so cute. The colors are really bright and vibrant and the accessories are very detailed. It comes with kittens, a cat, a bunny, a puppy and birds as well as a doll. There is a wash station with little bottles and grooming items, a swing for the birds, slide, and even little food dispensers with plastic dog bones and fish. It is the cutest set!
Originally created to be carried in your childs pocket for easy transportation, the Polly Pockets of today area little bit larger. Your child could, maybe, still carry the doll in her pocket but she would fit better in a small tote or purse. The animals and accessories would easily fit in a pocket or purse. I don’t think the larger sets like the pet shop are good for taking on the road though. They are a bit big and would be awkward to transport. They are perfect for table top/floor play though and my girls feel in love with them.
Some of the parts are really small and could pose a choking hazard for children under 4. The age recommendation on the box is 4+. My youngest is 3 and she flipped out when we set the pet shop up so I do let her play with it under supervision and warning to NOT put any of the pieces in her mouth. She is doing fine with it. And they are really taking care of the little pieces. We like to use baby wipes containers for small toys and they have one especially for their Polly Pocket accessories. They are great way to keep everything organized.
The girls, and mommy, also loved watching the DVD together. They really liked seeing Polly Pocket “come alive” in animation. It gave them ideas for playing with their sets and I noticed them acting out some of the scenes when they were playing. It made the perfect family movie night.
While Polly Pocket may be a toy from the past, it is one that lives on from generation to generation and just gets better with time.
Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Mattel Polly Pocket. I received a product samples and a promotional item as a thank-you for participating. All opinions are my own.
