The Mentalist: The Complete Third Season on DVD. Week 4. The Mole!

Ok, so I am going to do this post a little bit different. May of you all are also fans of The Mentalist so I’d like to get a conversation going in the comments section with your thoughts and ideas about the show. To do so, here is a question for you:

During Season 3, Patrick is on a mission to identify who Red John’s mole within the CBI is. Before Patrick revealed the mole, who did you suspect it was? What clues led you to suspect that person?

Did you think it was LaRoche based on the scenes and clues given or did you know all along that it was Craig  O’Loughlin? I was torn. These shows almost always lead us on a path and then throw a huge curve ball. So I tend to keep guessing until the very end. Every now and then, a show will let you know from the start who the bad guy is going to be and then you have twists and turns or moments where they are given a good side. Then you sort of feel badly for them. Or understand why they do the things they do. Other times, like with O’Loughlin, you get a glimpse of something real or close to answers, and then they die! What’s up with that?  And what is it with people finding out bad things about their intended ON THEIR WEDDING DAY? Soap operas, both daytime and primetime do this all. the. time. Can’t one couple ever make it happily down the aisle, and then stay together? Just one?

Ok, leave me your comments to the questions above.

In the Season 3 finale, Patrick confronts and shoots a man who claims to be the serial killer who murdered his wife and daughter – Red John.

So, John is sitting there in the mall talking on the phone and asks Lisbon to redial the last call on the O’Laughlin’s phone and tell the person on the other end that he (O’Laughlin) was dead. So, we’re sitting there waiting to see who answers when a phone near PATRICK starts to ring. This guy picks it up and answers and it sounds like Red John! That same voice.

He and Patrick have sort of a standoff then “Red John” describes the scent of Patrick’s late wife and daughter. OMG, my stomach twisted into knots during that scene! All of a sudden, while “Red john” was describing it, Patrick SHOT HIM! He had a gun in his pocket and literally shot him dead right then and there! It was certainly a plot twist for the season finale. Now we’re left wondering if the guy was really Red John or someone brainwashed by him to portray him? What will happen to Patrick both physically and emotionally? The show could go in so many different directions from this point. I’m not convinced it is Red John but the voice. Oh my gosh the voice. It sounded like him. And what other person would describe the scents like that? I just don’t know. But I do know I can’t wait for the next season to start so we can find out!

Sp tell me, do you believe that this man is the true Red John? If so, why? If not, who do you think he is?

If you are a fan of The Mentalist you know that in Season 3, Patrick appears to be able to communicate with horses as a ‘horse whisperer’, charm guilty culprits into spilling their secrets and help a hired burglar out of a holding cell in less than 24 hours. How cool is that?

If I, personally, had one of his abilities, I like to be able to charm guilty culprits into confessing. But only if it was done in a way that was admissible in court. Because, it would do much good to get a confession you couldn’t use, right? I’d also love to be psychic in a way that led police to find someone who was missing, then to the criminal. BUT, I’d want to do it anonymously. I wouldn’t want public credit for it and of course there is the safety issue of it. I don’t think bad people would appreciate that talent too much. So I wouldn’t want them to know about it either. Anyway, I think that would be an awesome skill to have. To be able to ‘see’ the crime and either stop it if there is time or solve it if it happened in the past.

Which of Patrick Jane’s skills would you most like to possess? What would you do with that ability?

Season 3 of The Mentalist finds Patrick Jane solving mysteries at locations including a racetrack, driving range, gold country and a mixed martial arts match. Suppose you had to solve mysteries at any or all of these locations. Which would prove more difficult for you?

I honestly can’t decide which I think would prove more difficult. I mean, each location has it’s own set of obstacles and people of varying skills. I think it would be hard to solve a mystery anywhere! You definitely have to have  a super set of skills. You need to be able to “read” people and you need to be able to pick out subtle differences in things. Sometimes, I wish I had what it takes to be a Private Eye or even a Forensic Scientist. Although I’m not sure I’d have the stomach for that one. But being able to solve mysteries and crimes is so awesome. I’d love to be able to do that, no matter the location!
