I adore Christmas and Holiday music. I listen to it randomly throughout the year and catch myself and my kids singing Christmas songs in mid summer! Christmas songs are just so catchy and uplifting. Speaking of Holiday music, I just had the honor to preview, for review, Holiday Wishes, a Christmas album recorded by Tony Award-winning singer/actor Idina Menzel, is out now on Warner Bros. Records.
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year and don’t know who Idina Menzel is, she is the vocalist for Disney Frozen’s “Let It Go” and the voice of Elsa. She is a powerhouse vocalist and can belt out tunes with ease. I big puffy heart Idina Menzel’s voice! It’s unique, beautiful and just really great.
I, personally, LOVED Baby It’s Cold Outside (Duet with Michael Buble) as well as Silent Night. The duet with Michael Buble is a great rendition of a really fun winter time song. Their voices work so well in the back and forth of the song. It had me tapping my toe and singing along!
Silent Night is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs anyway and Idina Menzel does such a wonderful job with it. She has so much emotion in her voice which makes you really feel the words and allows you to imagine a little baby Jesus being born. Her voice is so pretty!
I also learned a great new song on this album. December Prayer is a new song, written by Idina Menzel herself. It sounds like a song you would hear in a Disney movie. It is really soft and really pretty.
Of course, Winter Wonderland is also awesome. And Do You Hear What I Hear? Ok, so I really can’t pick a favorite. I love the whole album!
The album was produced by Grammy Award-winner Walter Afanasieff (Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey) and features such classic favorites as “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” as well as Joni Mitchell’s Christmas-themed “River,” one of Menzel’s favorites.
Idina’s career has traversed stage, film, television, and music. She was most recently heard as Elsa in Disney’s global box-office smash Frozen, in which she sings the film’s Oscar-winning song “Let It Go.” After her performance of the multi-platinum song at the 86th annual Academy Awards, she made history as the first person with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting.
Idina currently stars as Elizabeth in the original Broadway production of If/Then.
