I am loving this new Eucalyptus Shower Spray recipe! At the time of this writing, it’s winter, which means it’s that time of year for colds, flu and all the nasty upper respiratory infections. Not to mention the fact the world is battling a pandemic that is also an upper respiratory infection. BLEH!

I can’t take OTC medications because they make my heart race plus I have high blood pressure. I have always had to rely on natural remedies, even before I knew how much I loved them and essential oils! To fight a stuffy nose and chest congestion, my #1 favorite oils are Eucalyptus essential oil and Camphor essential oil. I also love dissolving menthol crystals in many of the recipes for congestion. This combination works wonders for a stuffy nose and congested chest!
I made our oldest daughter a gift basket for Christmas filled with natural Eucalyptus and camphor symptom relievers for cold and flu. She works with children so she has been exposed to every virus out there! I made her some shower steamers but I hadn’t thought to make a Eucalyptus shower spray! So, I just did and thought you may enjoy it too.

- Eucalyptus Essential Oil – my 2 favorite brands are Simply Earth (pictured) and RMO (affiliate link)
- Distilled Water (see note below)
- Grain Alcohol
- Camphor Essential Oil (optional)
As I mentioned, above, this recipe has been updated. It now uses only alcohol and no water and optionally includes camphor EO along with the Eucalyptus. I prefer alcohol only and 5 drops Camphor. To me, the alcohol just works better and has a better shelf life. The addition of the camphor adds even more vapor-like aroma to really help unclog congestion. Plus, I just love how it smells!
NOTE
IF I use my previous water/alcohol version (which I really don’t now), I’ll make this Eucalyptus shower spray 1 -2 ounces at a time. You could double it and still use it pretty quickly. The alcohol will provide a decent shelf life, but, any time I use water in a recipe and don’t include a different preservative, I like to make smaller batches to use quicker. As I mentioned, though, the alcohol does act as a preservative and will help it keep several weeks, at least. The alcohol only version lasts pretty much indefinitely. I keep it in the shower and haven’t noticed any mold or anything.

To make this Eucalyptus shower spray (printable recipe card and label below) just add 1 TBSP grain alcohol, like Everclear, to a 1 ounce PET plastic, HDPE plastic or glass spray bottle. I prefer plastic since I’m using it in the shower and tend to drop things.
Next add 20 drops Eucalyptus essential oil + 5 drops Camphor essential oil (optional but preferred) and swirl to mix. If using the water and alcohol version, I let this mixture sit about 30 minutes before adding water. I feel like it helps the oils and alcohol solubilize a bit. Water and oils don’t mix but the oils will mix into the alcohol pretty well. Otherwise, if using only alcohol, mix the oils and alcohol and you’re done.
If using water, I then add 1 TBSP of distilled water. Using distilled helps with the shelf life as well. I’m using 20 drops here and not using a dilution since it is for aromatherapy only. It isn’t going onto your skin and you will only be using it when you are sick so a higher amount should be ok.
Shake to mix. Spray onto your shower walls BEFORE getting in. Turn the shower on, get in and enjoy the decongestant power of Eucalyptus and Camphor essential oil! Ahhhhhh
If you find the scent too strong, only spray once and use less Eucalyptus like maybe 5 drops next time you make it.
For the grain alcohol, I prefer a high proof Everclear. I’m talking 190 proof, but if you can only find 150 proof, that is fine too. If you prefer to use Witch Hazel in place of water or alcohol, that is also fine. Just note the shelf life will only be a few weeks, even if you omit the water so only make an ounce at a time and use it quickly. Anything with water or water based ingredients, like witch hazel can mold very quickly. Storing it in the refrigerator can help extend the shelf life a bit but not much longer.
This Eucalyptus shower spray recipe is safe to use with children 10+ and it is NOT considered pet safe. As always, use with caution, discontinue use and seek medical care if any irritation. Always use essential oils and natural products at your own risk and do your own research into the safety.

Ingredients
- 20 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 2 TBSP Grain Alcohol (like Everclear)
- 5 drops Camphor Essential Oil (optional)
Instructions
- Pour grain alcohol into spray bottle
- Add essential oil(s)
- Swirl to mix and optionally allow to sit 20 – 30 minutes to solubilize
- Add distilled water and shake to mix
- Spray onto walls of shower before getting in
- Turn on water and enjoy!
