Beauty for Ashes by Dorothy Love Book Review AND Sapphire Ring Giveaway

Beauty for Ashes  by Dorothy Love is another one of those delightful Christian Southern romance novels I love so much. It draws you into the story with trials and tribulations, gives you a little romance and rounds off with a Christian moral and new felt faith. That’s a perfect story.

In Beauty for Ashes, main female character Cary Daly has lost her husband and is living with her brother who is about to wed an unpleasant, spoiled woman with 2 equally spoiled sons. Life on a farm with two females as “Lady of the House” can’t work out. Especially when one is spoiled and lazy. So Carrie finds herself starting over and meeting new women. She has been in a relationship with bookstore owner, Nate for awhile but the sparks just aren’t there and she hasn’t fully committed her heart to him. She immediately feels an attraction to Griff Rutledge when fate lets him step into her life. But the townsfolk don’t think it is proper for him to court her. Carrie’s life is so full of twists and turns in this novel that it will leave your head spinning.! But in a good way. Just when you think she has her life going in the right direction, things fall apart and she has to start over again.

My heart ached for Carrie throughout this entire story. I cried with her, rejoiced with her and grew with her. There are MANY life lessons to be learned in this book. Carrie’s faith and endurance were tested and it was very easy to put yourself in her shoes and think about how you would handle the same situations. As a Christian, we are taught to forgive. I think Carrie’s forgiveness and ability to put others first is a testament to how we should all live. She definitely has more strength than I do and the lessons learned from reading Beauty for Ashes will remain with me and strengthen me. It is wonderful when a story can teach you so much! This was a great story and another I didn’t want to put down.

About the book:
She’s a beautiful young widow. He’s a Southern gentleman with a thirst for adventure. Both need a place to call home.
After losing her husband in the Civil War, Carrie Daly is scared she will never have the family she longs for. Eligible bachelors are scarce in Hickory Ridge, Tennessee, but Carrie has found love. Not the weak-in-the-knees kind, but something practical. Still, she isn’t quite ready to set a wedding date with Nate Chastain.
Griff Rutledge is a former member of Charleston society, but has been estranged from his family for years. He’s determined to remain unattached, never settling in one place for too long. But when asked to train a Thoroughbred for an upcoming race in Hickory Ridge, he decides to stay awhile.
Despite objections from the townsfolk, and her fear that true happiness has eluded her, Carrie is drawn to Griff’s kindness and charm. It will take a leap of faith for them to open their hearts and claim God’s promise to give beauty for ashes.
