Song Of My Heart by Kim Vogel Sawyer. Nook Tablet Giveaway

Song Of My Heart by Kim Vogel Sawyer is another Christian romance novel that I think you’ll really enjoy. Set in 1895 it captures the hard lives of the time period. Bootlegging was beginning to be a real problem as people used stills to illegally make and sell alcohol. Thad McKane, aspiring minister, is called to town to act as the local sheriff and uncover a potential bootlegging ring.

Sadie Wagner, aspiring opera singer, is helping take care of her family and injured step-father when she receives a letter from her step-cousin Sid that he has found jobs for her working at the mercantile and singing in a new Opera House in Goldtree, Kansas. She’ll have to move from her home in Indiana but it will mean being able to send money home for her family as well as pursuing her dream of singing. So she goes.

While in Kansas, Sadie gets a surprising welcome from her “cousin”, Sid. She also meets new sheriff, Thad McKane as well as the two boisterous twin sisters she is working for and their brother/her boss Asa Baxter. Asa seemed like a royal jerk to me from the get go. I certainly would not want to work for him even if meant following my dream. The Baxter twins remind me so much of a neighbor we once had. Loud, but loveable. Would tell you exactly what was on her mind. Hardworking and not taking any nonsense from anyone around. She was my favorite neighbor, although I don’t know if I could handle two! hehehehe This also describes BOTH of the Baxter twins. SHOO WEE! Sadie had her hands full for sure!

Sadie is bound and determined to pray for answers and follow her faith but she does get in over her head a bit. I thought the story was very well written. I do feel like the climax wrapped up a bit strange and a little quickly. There could have been a bit more action during that part, but overall the story was very good and another one that I didn’t want to put down until I had finished. I really enjoyed following the characters throughout the story and reading how they interacted with each other. The Baxter twins provided a bit of comedy along with the suspense of the bootlegging mystery. The story had romance, mystery, faith and heartache. The characters are genuine and loveable and made for a great read.
