We all know that the process of moving can be an overwhelming experience. It is at the same time exciting and intimidating to think about. Regardless of whether you are a lone individual moving apartments, or the mother of a family moving across the country, moving is no small task.
Aside from the big things like furniture and clothes, you also need to think about your personal care items. For many people, our favorite eyeshadow is just as important as our favorite sweater. But we want to go about the process right and make sure we take exactly what we want to take, and in the right way. And when the packing process is complete, Elatemoving.com can help complete the job.
Makeup and other beauty products: take them or ditch them?
Beauty products come in all shapes and sizes, and the price tags on them can vary enormously. Even skin cream can be dear, indeed, so you don’t necessarily want to toss the remains of your Clé de Peau simply because it is 75% empty. Then again, it is sometimes the most expensive items that spoil the fastest, so you might have to do a bit of research before you decide what to keep and what not to keep.
Product experts recommend the following strategy:
- Search item by item to determine average lifecycles for different products. Many of us tend to leave foundation sitting around indefinitely. But did you know that the average cream foundation is only good for 6-12 months? Powders, on the other hand, tend to last for up to 24 months. So be specific when you look, and even take brands into consideration as some may use more organic ingredients than others.
- Be reasonable. You don’t want to lose a lot of money by throwing things out that you will have to buy again, but you also don’t want to be strapped with dozens of huge bottles during your move that are practically empty and not worth much. So if you’ve got a lot of mostly-empty containers–especially if they are repeats–think about either combining contents or ditching those 90% empty bottles that you can easily replace anyway.
- Think about rarity. Another consideration is items that either aren’t made anymore or ones that might be very difficult for you to replace. Whether or not you really want these things is another question, and one that you can use your judgment about, but you might be heartbroken if you tossed a favorite perfume only to discover that you can’t get it anymore.
- Beware of liquids in general. Liquids can be a real pain to transport sometimes, and if you aren’t super careful about how you package them, they can wreak havoc on the rest of your stuff. A poorly-closed nail polish remover packed together with your passport can result in total disaster if you are not careful. If you need to make tough decisions about what you ought and ought not to keep, think about ditching the liquids first (they can also be extremely heavy!).
- Be sure your eyeshadows are secure. We might not realize it at first, but eyeshadows are composed of finely milled mica, talc, and silica, and if prodded even slightly the wrong way they can turn into a massive dust cloud. Be sure that your containers are sealed tight, and ideally packaged snugly with other items so that they don’t bounce around during your move.
Celebrate once you arrive
Making a move is an exciting thing to do. And it is something to be celebrated. While you certainly don’t want to abandon all your favorite items, you should also think about what the new chapter you’re entering into will mean for you, and how you might mark the occasion. Think about a new lipstick, a fresh scent, or a luxurious cream you’ve been eyeing that would put the perfect explanation mark on this special time for you. Then you can go confidently into the future, knowing that you are pampered inside and out.
