I have been making green juice like crazy lately. I love that I can mix all sorts of vegetables and fruits into a juice or a smoothie and it tastes good! Some of my favorite ingredients to use are romaine lettuce, baby spinach, apples, blueberries, celery and pineapple. I love using strawberries too. Sometimes I’ll use a bit of frozen kale cubes for a punch of vitamins but I’m not a big fan of kale. So I don’t use it often.
Disclosure: I receive a complimentary Tribest® Slowstar® Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer to facilitate my review. All opinions are strictly my own and were formed through personal testing. Your results may vary.
I like to alternate making green juice and smoothies from day to day. I like to have green juice one day, to absorb as many nutrients, quickly, as I can. Then, the next day, or even for lunch that day, I’ll make a smoothie so I get all the great fiber from the pulp. I need to lower my cholesterol so I really need to up my fiber intake. At the same time, I need all the goodness you can get from the juice. Plus, I tend to have digestive issues so I juice often just to give my tummy a break.
I have a juicer that I do love but that thing is LOUD and it is so strong that it “walks” across the counter when you’re using it. I’d rather use it when I need to make large amounts of juice and when I’m using harder ingredients. So I wanted another one for everyday use. One that will make great juice with out a ton of prep work but can be washed and stored away easily. I’ve been using the Tribest® Slowstar® Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer and I love it.
The Slowstar juices fruits and vegetables at 47 RPM. The mincing attachment is used as a multi-purpose tool to create your favorite recipes like sorbets, nut butters, pâté, and sauces. So you basically have a 2-1 in appliance.
I’m equally excited about the mincing attachment. I use it to mince onions, garlic, jalapenos and cilantro to add to tomatoes and some lime juice for my homemade Pico De Gallo. We love making sorbets too. I use frozen berries, vanilla, and a little almond or coconut milk. For more tart berries I also add a teaspoon of maple syrup. The mincer makes it the perfect consistency and it tastes so good. It’s a much better alternative to store bought ice cream. I’m also excited to create my own nut butters. We can find peanut butter and almond butter easily enough but in our small town it’s hard to find other nut butters like cashew butter. I’ve been wanting to try that so now I can make it myself and know exactly what’s in it.
The juicing basket sits inside another basket that has silicone scrapers. These scrapers push the pulp around, scraping the sides of the bowl like a rubber spatula, and push it out the pulp shoot, squeezing as much juice out as possible. The pulp that is left behind is very dry. I also like that the auger isn’t sharp metal blades so I feel safer removing it to clean.
To use either the juicer or the mincing attachment, place your fruits or vegetables in the shoot and push it down with the included plunger. NEVER put your finger, utensils, etc. down the shoot.
The pulp comes out one side and into a pitcher and the juice comes out the juice spout and into a pitcher. There is a flip lid on the juicer spout if you need to keep the juice in the basket and not let it flow into the pitcher.
In the video below, I’ll show you how quiet this machine is. It does not make a lot of noise at all and it also doesn’t get louder or make a loud grinding noise when you add your vegetables and fruit. You can see that it pushes the pulp out one side, into a pitcher, and the juice out a spout on the front and into another pitcher. The pulp can be tossed out, put down the garbage disposal or it can be recycled! You can use it to nourish flower and vegetable gardens or you can put it in freezer bags or sous vide silicone bags and freeze it to use for stock in soups and stews.
On thing I forgot to mention in the video is that when you are finished making juice or mincing, you can run plain water through to do a semi self cleaning. This flushes most of the pulp out, making it super easy to wash. Wash it in warm, soapy water and you’re all done.
In the video, I used the following ingredients in to make my juice:
- 1 head romaine lettuce – torn into thirds
- 3 stalks celery – cut into 2 inch pieces
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple/mango blend
- 1 inch knob fresh ginger
- 1/2 lemon
- 1/4 cup pomegranate juice
I seeded my lemon but I didn’t peel it. I have been sick and wanted as many nutrients as I could get. However, I HIGHLY recommend peeling your lemon. That zest was bitter. Plus I had to strain the juice before drinking it because it made it thick.
My absolute favorite green juice consists of baby spinach, romaine, celery, baby carrots, apples and blueberries. Sometimes I also add ginger. Yum.
This particular juicer needs everything to be cut into smaller pieces and all seeds removed. While you can’t put a whole apple or carrot in it, you can make some incredible juice quickly and easily.

Hi! I’m looking for a nice beetrot juice recipes. Can you recommend one?)
Great review. I am still deciding between the Slowstar and the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer. Have you reviewed the Kuvings? THANKS.
Hi Merlene,
I haven’t tried the Kuvings brand. I really like the tribest because it is really quiet and I can make juice early without waking everyone up. It’s fairly easy to clean too.
In case price is an option. For an inexpensive store-bought option I also have a Hamilton Beach juicer that I bought a long time ago. I love it as far as its juicing capability. It juices even whole apples really well. The only downside is that it is really loud!
The two I’ve mentioned are the only ones I’ve tried but I’d recommend either one of them.
