I have the hardest time deciding on gifts for family. Clay is the gift shopper in the family. He can get in and out of the store in less than an hour and have awesome gifts for everyone. Not me. When I give a gift, I put tons of thought into it. I love to give fun and personalized gifts. So mine take more time in the deciding factor. And I do my best to match the gift with the recipient. I don’t want to give them something tacky or something they won’t use. So I do put a lot of thought into the personalization and what it will be used for.
My mother-in-law loves photos of the kids and she likes them on things that people will see. It makes it really easy for her to show off her grandbabies. 😀 She also likes to let the kids help decorate her Christmas tree. Which isn’t always a good thing. A couple of years ago, our then youngest two children managed to break every one of my mom-in-law’s glass ornaments. Many of them she’d had for many years and it broke my hear that they were broken. So as a gift, I made her a set of brand new, personalized ornaments. And they had the kids pictures in them.
I had these little, 2 inch round tins with clear lids. I printed out photos of each of the kids and used my 2″ round scrapbooking punch to cut them to size. Then I glued them inside the tins, glued the lids in place and added ribbon and a little bell so she could hang them on her tree. She LOVED them! They turned out perfectly.
It’s so easy to add little, personal touches to gifts. You can:
- Add a photo
- Use permanent markers, craft or fabric paint to add names
- Add wooden or craft foam letters to spell out names or initials
- Paint names and favorite designs on kid’s furniture
- Use iron-on transfers to add names, initials and photos to fabric items
- Order a personalized piece of clothing and attach a matching, handmade gift tag
