6 Must Have Travel Beauty Tips

We’ve been going to Tennessee as a family for a few years now. And while we don’t fly and it takes less than 10 hours to get there, the car ride can still be tiring. And rough on the skin. I’m always so excited when we go that I do my hair and make-up, no matter what time we plan on getting there. But by the time we arrive, things don’t look quite as fresh as when we left. Combine heat/air blowing in my face, dealing with the kids, rubbing my face in aggravation while looking up directions, sometimes falling asleep and general tiredness… What started out looking pretty good can end up looking like a mess. But I’ve found some great products and tips to add to my beauty arsenal.

Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. All opinions are strictly my own.

I’m going to share with you 6 of my, personal, must have travel beauty tips.

Travel Beauty Tips

  1. Sunscreen. Sunscreen.

I can’t express enough how much I recommend sunscreen. Sure, a tan looks pretty while you’re tanned. But sun damage, my million and one freckles and even possibly skin cancer just isn’t as attractive. Ok, so my freckles are kind of cute but they represent damage to my skin. So I don’t like them. I don’t tan anyway. I burn, peel and freckle. The end. Applying a sunscreen with a mid – high SPF is a must have for me and my family. I’d rather know we are protecting ourselves than look tan. Sorry, folks, you’ll just have to look at my vampire white skin.

  1. Less is more.

Don’t go heavy with the makeup. If your skin is uneven, like mine, you tend to want to put on a heavy foundation. But you certainly don’t want your face to be bogged down while on vacation. You want to be fresh and light.  I’ve found that powdered mineral makeup, combined with a setting spray works perfectly. Plus, it’s dry, unlike a foundation, so it reduces oiliness. And it takes less. So a touch of mineral makeup, some blush, eyeliner, mascara and lip balm or gloss and you’re good to go. A little eye shadow is fine too. Just don’t go heavy.

  1. Facial Spray, Setting Spray or Refreshing Spray.

Travel Beauty Tips: Evian Facial Spray

I like to use a setting and refreshing spray, especially when using mineral makeup. You can use a primer but I really like to use a facial spray like Evian Facial Spray. It’s in a aerosol type can so you can spritz a little or a lot. It can be used for a couple of reasons too. First, I like to use it first thing. I spray a generous amount on my face and neck. I get it pretty wet and let it sit for a few seconds. Then I pat it dry and apply my moisturizer. This, for me, works as a primer and helps keep my skin super moisturized without being greasy. Dry skin is annoying. And travel can really dry it out, so give it as much moisture help as possible. Then I apply my mineral makeup and blush. When all my makeup is applied, I give myself a very light spritz of the facial spray to set my makeup. This helps it last all day.

If your makeup gets dull looking later in the day or if you get hot and sweaty, another little spritz will cool you off and help you to reset and touch up your makeup. It’s really cool how it works. I keep a big can in my beauty bag and a smaller 1.7 oz travel sized can of Evian facial spray in my purse or “go bag”. If we’re out hiking or walking and I get hot, a little spritz in my wrists, palms, face and the back of my neck instantly cools me off. I also have a little battery operated fan that I can wear like a necklace. Combine that with the facial spray and you’re in heaven! (Awesome if you’re having a hot flash)

  1. Waterproof is your friend.

I ALWAYS wear waterproof mascara and eyeliner on vacation. We like to take impromptu hikes and long walks, dip our toes in the creek and check out the waterfalls. Not to mention, just walking around Gatlinburg. If the sun is shining or you get hot and sweaty, your eye makeup will become your face makeup. No one wants mascara running down their face. But you don’t have to go without. Wear waterproof and it will stay in place until you remove it with cleanser.

  1. Makeup remover wipes.

Travel Beauty Tips

If you do wear waterproof makeup, you’ll need to take it off at night. Don’t sleep in your makeup or your skin will NOT be happy. A small package of makeup remover wipes fits nicely in a makeup bag and one or two will take that waterproof makeup right off. I like to give my face another spritz with the facial spray, pat dry and apply moisturizer at night too.

  1. Lip balm with sunscreen.

When traveling, especially in the mountains, the change in climate and temperatures can really take a toll on your skin, including your lips. I mentioned that I use a good facial spray on my face and neck. It’s water and it also gets on my lips. But when I’m out and about applying lip balm with sunscreen keeps my lips from getting chapped and dry. So my pucker is ready for smoochety smoocheties with Clay. And my lips look and feel good.

BONUS TIP:

Ok so this isn’t a makeup tip but it is a must have health and travel skincare tip.

Sunglasses, particularly sunglasses with both UVA and UVB protection. Not only do they protect your eye site from damaging and harmful rays, they also help protect the skin around your eyes. Less damage could equal less wrinkles and dryness, wouldn’t you think?

Ok so those are my 6 must have travel beauty tips. I want to tell you a little more about my favorite facial spray because this stuff is amazing. It makes my skin feel so good. I let my teenage son and daughter try it out and even they loved it. So, that’s something right there!

You’ve heard of Evian ®Natural Mineral Water, right? Well, same company. Different product.

Here’s the gist on Evian Facial Spray:

Evian Facial Spray was originally introduced in France in 1962 at the request of doctors for use on burn patients. It was the first facial water spray in France and was introduced as the first facial spray in the United States in 1978. Because of the current world-wide awareness of the Evian brand name, and the 37 year efforts of the USA exclusive distributor (The Wilkes Group Inc. in Old Lyme, CT), Evian is the only facial spray to be carried by many prestige retail groups including Nordstrom and Sephora. It is also offered in many luxury resorts and hotels such as Four Seasons. Evian Facial Spray is coveted by flight attendants and available on luxury private planes (such as Netjets) to combat the effects of recycled airplane air that lacks necessary moisture.

The French Government has extremely stringent standards for approving mineral waters as suitable to drink. Evian Facial Spray is the only mineral water spray in the USA to contain such a water and the only one with a companion drinkable bottled mineral water. Worldwide, the Evian brand can be found now in over 120 countries.

The Wilkes Group was founded in 1976 and has distributed Evian Facial Spray since 1978. The company is focused primarily on prestige distribution at retail and luxury resorts/hotels that buy the product as a room, cabana, or poolside amenity.

This stuff was created for burn victims. So you know it is gentle on the skin. I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in the moisture of my skin. With winter on its way and harsh, dry air, I plan on using it every day, not just during travel.
