Can you believe summer break is almost over?
Last week, I received school supply lists for two of my children. These lists are pretty big too. Classrooms today require so many supplies so we usually buy for one child one week, another the next, etc. But there are families out there who can’t afford to buy any school supplies for their children. We have been there, struggling to purchase supplies for three kids when my husband was laid off because there wasn’t enough work for all the employees.
Here in KY there are several services that reach out and furnish those items to families in need but they aren’t heavily advertised and many families don’t know about them or where to go to apply. So, many times, the teacher is left with the out of pocket cost of purchasing extra supplies. This year, my oldest daughter and I decided to participate in Elmer’s #BagItForward campaign and donate an extra set of quality school supplies to her class. Just in case there is a child who needs them. And by shopping at Walmart, it only cost around $25 for our donation.
You can do this too. Skip a restaurant and purchase some extra school supplies. It’s so easy and you’ll make someone very happy! And be sure to check out the 1st Day App on the Elmer’s 1st day of School display. There is a QR code that you can scan with your smartphone to download the 1st Day App. When you share photos, the 1st Day App will help drive donations to Kids In Need Foundation. Also, when you use the app you can also get a free 5 x 7 digital print in August from Walmart. (In August, just visit the Walmart Photo Department in-store or online at Walmart.com/photo for details.)
What is the Elmer’s 1st Day™ app?
The Elmer’s 1st Day™ app is a FREE mobile app that enables parents to capture those priceless “1st day” moments year after year. It also provides teachers a unique platform to share photos of their classrooms, school projects and more with family and friends.
We had so much fun on our shopping trip. We gathered her list and picked out a double batch of everything that was on it. There were TONS of school supplies. There were plenty of binders, folders, crayons and, of course, Elmer’s products. In two weeks, though, the Elmer’s 1st Day of School display will house supply lists for every class in the county and these shelves will be completely bare. I’m so glad we got their lists early!
We came home and put everything together. We bought a reusable Walmart bag to put it all in to make it easier to carry. My daughter helped sort everything out and load the bag up. She was so excited to help create a bag of school supplies for one of her classmates. Sis has such a big heart and wants to be a part of every organization and charity that she hears about. I am so proud that she wanted to help with this project.
We didn’t get to deliver it yet because the school is closed until mid-August but we are going to take it to her teacher at our parent-teacher meeting so she’ll have it for any child who needs it.
