Clay and I were recently lucky enough to be hosted at Dancing Angels Chalet in Gatlinburg, TN for our 22 wedding anniversary getaway. Our anniversary isn’t until November, but since it falls around Thanksgiving and we wanted to visit Ober for Octoberfest, we decided to go early this year.
We had a schedule this year but still had plenty of time for relaxing. And since we were there together, just the two of us, even the busy schedule was relaxing and fun. We visited Ober Gatlinburg and attended Octoberfest, walked through the Alcatraz East Museum, walked the length of the Gatlinburg strip, shopped and explored, visited a few wineries and distilleries and enjoyed a few meals at local restaurants.
Once back at Dancing Angels Chalet in the evenings, we relaxed in the hot tub. I also enjoyed the indoor Jacuzzi while Clay played on the arcade game or watched TV. There is even a sauna!
Neither of us had ever used a sauna before so we were a little nervous. The thought of getting all hot in a sweat box didn’t really seem too appealing to me but, let me tell ya, it was nice! Clay used it more than I did but I did like it. He really enjoyed the sauna and got in every night we were there.
I was a little worried, being so close to other homes, that it would be noisy there but it wasn’t. Inside is very private and quiet. We could hear neighbors car doors once or twice but no more than anywhere else. We had tons of privacy.
The chalet is exceptional and Haley, the owner, has thought of everything. Anything we needed was furnished! There were plenty of dishes and cookware for making a meal. There is an electric grill for grilling burgers, steaks, chicken, etc.
We had a starter supply of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap and even laundry soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was a welcome basket waiting for us and the kitchen was furnished with every spice you could think of, an amazing coffee maker with individual coffee pods or filters to make a full 12 cup pot.
There was hot chocolate, tea, popcorn, etc. She even has different sweeteners!
I use stevia so it was so nice to see stevia packets furnished. Nowhere else I’ve been has ever done that. Those little things mean so much to guests!
There was lovely artwork, throughout. It was decorated for fall with subtle decor here and there. It was so pretty and inviting both inside and out!
The living room is extremely comfortable. There’s a sofa bed and love seat. Blankets and pillows make for a warm and inviting place to sit and watch tv, listen to music on the radio or simply relax by the fireplace. The fireplace is seasonal so we didn’t use it but there were candles inside so we could have probably lit those. It was nice just covering up with a blanket and snuggling on the couch with a glass of wine, some popcorn and a movie.
There are two bathrooms (a full bathroom and a half bath) as well as a laundry area in case you need to wash some clothes while you’re there.
The bedroom is upstairs and features a comfy king sized bed with soft, silky linens. There are super soft and firm pillows so we both had just what we needed. We had no problems falling asleep night.
On Friday, we visited Ober and spent the day riding the chair lift, mountain coaster, etc. We visited the Octoberfest Bier Garten and had a giant soft, pretzel. (blog post coming next week)
Then we rode the tram down to Gatlinburg, walked the length of the strip, bought a piece of honey comb at Savannah Bee Company and visited the Village for shopping and photos. We had supper at the Loco Burro, visited a winery and a moonshine distillery, then headed back to our chalet for time in the hot tub and a movie on the big tv.
On Saturday, we had lunch at a deli then visited Alcatraz East Museum. We spent about 3 hours there walking around and looking at all the exhibits. We both really liked that museum and will have a blog post for it too. I was really surprised at how large it is inside and how many exhibits there are!
After walking through the museum, we drove around looking at the mountains, then headed to the Smoky Mountain Brewery for supper. It was packed and we had an hour and half wait. We really like the food there so it was worth the wait. And since Gatlinburg was so crowded with people there on Fall Break, we knew every restaurant in town was just as busy and crowded.
After supper we visited Gatlinburg Wine Cellar to try their Cotton Candy wine, then headed back to Dancing Angels Chalet to enjoy our last night there.
We had such a wonderful anniversary getaway this year! The only regret we had was that it wasn’t longer.
I did a walk through video as soon as we got to the chalet and you can see it room by room, below. We were both so tired when we got there. It was 10 pm, Clay had worked all day before driving down, I had a busy day and we drove for over 4 hours. So I stumbled over a few words in the walk-through. Please bear with me! 😉
I’ve also included a photo slideshow of Dancing Angels Chalet, below, in case you’re like me and love looking at pictures. Click the little box icon on the top right of the 1st photo to make the slideshow full screen.
