Every Perfect Gift By Dorothy Love

Every-Perfect-Gift.jpegAbout Every Perfect Gift by Dorothy Love:

Book 3 in Dorothy Love’s Hickory Ridge Romance series.

Ethan and Sophie long to share a future together. But the secrets they’re not sharing could tear them apart.

Sophie Caldwell has returned to Hickory Ridge, Tennessee, after years away. Despite the heartaches of her childhood, Sophie is determined to make a home, and a name, for herself in the growing town. A gifted writer, she plans to resurrect the local newspaper that so enchanted her as a girl.
Ethan Heyward’s idyllic childhood was shattered by a tragedy he has spent years trying to forget. An accomplished businessman and architect, he has built a majestic resort in the mountains above Hickory Ridge, drawing wealthy tourists from all over the country.
When Sophie interviews Ethan for the paper, he is impressed with her intelligence and astounded by her beauty. She’s equally intrigued but fears he will reject her if he learns about her shadowed past. Just as she summons the courage to tell him, Ethan’s own past unexpectedly and violently catches up with him, threatening not only his life but their budding romance.

MY THOUGHTS:
Dorothy Love is officially one of my favorite authors. I missed out on book one in her Hickory Ridge series but I was lucky enough to review Book 2, Beauty For Ashes. Her latest in the series, Every Perfect Gift was just as well written as the other. I love how Dorothy introduces her new characters by having them interact with characters from the first parts of the series.

We got to catch up with Cary Daly from “Beauty For Ashes” and Ada Wentworth from “Beyond All Measure” (book 1). They older characters aren’t center focus but their lives are still prominent in the new characters lives. It is like you are really watching these peoples lives unfold. Sophie’s character is extremely believable. She doesn’t know her mother or father and there is question about her lineage due to her skin and hair coloring. Slavery had ended but prejudices still remained making her life as a child very painful and causes her to keep her possible parentage a secret from those she meets in the story. But she is determined to push through it and make a life for herself. The newspaper gives her the chance to really shine and show people that she is more than her ancestry. She is a woman on a mission with intelligence and character.

Ethan, with secrets of his own and even some similarities, is also a heartwarming character. He begins to see that wealth doesn’t always equal happiness. He also has to confront a very big demon from his past that may conflict his budding friendship/relationship with Sophie. Being haunted by his past makes it very difficult for him to not only open up to Sophie, but to really go after his dreams designing and building houses and buildings. He is sort of stuck in this rut with his mentor, Horace, who is proving to be a very ugly person.

I think that Dorothy Love does a wonderful job featuring her characters and drawing us into their lives. Even though I love knowing what happens in the end, I am always sad to finish one of her novels. I’d love for the story to go on and on!

I’ll definitely be requesting “Beyond All Measure” for Christmas, so I can see how Ada and Wyatt met up. After all, they gave Sophie a home and a name so I want to know more about the people that took her in and loved her from a 10 year old girl! I’m putting this book in my Amazon wish list right now so Hubby can get it for me for Christmas!
