Clay and I just got back from a wonderful trip Gatlinburg, TN to celebrate his birthday. We LOVE those mountains and spending time together in our favorite city is always perfect. This time, we went without the kids. Just the two of us. And it was only the 2nd time in 18 years of marriage that we’ve gone away together as a couple without the family. I love it.
But at the same time, I love traveling with my kids. We’re planning on doing some traveling this summer. I’d love to be able to go somewhere, just the 6 of us, for Mother’s Day. I don’t think we’ll be able to travel so soon after the birthday trip but I definitely want to do something while the kids are out of school for the summer. We typically rent a cabin but a lodge, house, condo or hotel would be great if we were staying somewhere new. Of course, you may want to send your mom or wife somewhere without the kids to offer her a bit of pampering and relaxation. There are great places for that too! If we were able to go somewhere for Mother’s Day, there are a few places I’d love to check out. Here are a few Mother’s Day travel gift ideas I found:
- Villa Florence for The Downtown Diva
- The Scarlet Huntington for The Regal Urban Experience
- Cavallo Point Lodge for A Weekend of Zen
Here’s a little more info on each one of these travel destinations:
The Downtown Diva at Villa Florence
For an urban and European-themed adventure, head over to San Francisco’s bustling Union Square. Villa Florence, a boutique hotel that debuted a $15 million new look in March, is offering all-inclusive packages with valet parking, breakfast for two and a free room upgrade. Mom will enjoy the new décor of the Italian-inspired rooms with makeup stations, feast on an authentic Northern Italian dinner at Kuleto’s downstairs and take advantage of the cable car and world-class shopping right outside. The celebration starts with complimentary Limoncello and biscotti for guests at check in.
Villa Florence introduced a new multi-million dollar look in March 2015. The first phase unveiled an extensive transformation of the hotel’s 182 guest rooms and corridors and added seven new guest rooms, totaling 189 rooms. The second phase will include the lobby and meeting areas. The new look design vision is inspired by the concept of a modern day villa off a Florentine Palazzo and embraces a bold, distinct, and timeless infusion of elegance and sophistication. Building upon a legacy of evolving Italian design, the hotel’s new interiors showcase a neutral color palette infused with texture and high-contrast color accents.
- A business center
- An exercise/fitness room
- A custom check-in experience, where guests receive authentic treats like Biscotti and Limoncello
- In-room desks and nightstands with outlets and USB ports, reading lights, and an ergonomic desk chair (desks also feature built-in make-up stations)

A Weekend of Zen at Cavallo Point Lodge
For those who would rather leave the city for a hideaway gem in nature, Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito offers a sweet escape at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. Cavallo Point provides a panoramic view of San Francisco’s cityscape and rests within walking distance to numerous trail hikes. Guests can begin the day with Murray Circle’s Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet. At the Healing Arts Center and Spa, Mom can be treated to an organic spa treatment or take a dip in the outdoor heated meditation pool, seek spiritual healing with an in-house shaman and enjoy quality time at the Tea Bar.
Cavallo Point Lodge offers two room categories, crafted with distinctive features but are a century apart in character and style. Built between 1901 and 1915, Cavallo Point Lodge’s 68 Historic rooms and suites once served as officers’ quarters for Army personnel. The restored landmark brick buildings feature expansive foyers and staircases, authentic tin ceilings, fireplaces, panoramic windows, and spacious front porches, many with breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay. San Francisco-based Architectural Resources Group was responsible for the restoration’s architectural design and direction.
The 74 newly constructed Contemporary rooms and suites, set on a hillside, offer spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge through floor-to-ceiling windows. Cavallo Point Lodge’s new rooms feature sustainable design and construction with solar power, radiant heat floors, renewable materials, organic bedding and linens, and natural amenities appropriate to the lodge’s national park setting. Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects designed Cavallo Point Lodge’s new buildings.
All accommodations provide modern conveniences, including flat-panel televisions, concierge services and Wi-Fi. Pets may join their owners in select first-floor rooms.
