MOM Checklist

When it comes to motor oil, it is one of those things where “you get what you pay for”. There are many things that we will buy the cheapest priced version but not motor oil and not when we go get an oil change. That is one thing where we don’t fully cut costs because the higher the price, many times the better the oil. You’ll want to know the level of performance recommended by your vehicle manufacturer and use the correct oil for your vehicle. But that’s not to say that an oil change has to cost you an arm and a leg either.

Sometimes we change the oil ourselves but we do try to go in for a full oil change, air filter change etc. before we go on vacation. Also, ladies, YOU can take your car in for an oil change without the hubby! But there are some things you need to know before you do.

AAA expects between the major summer holidays of Memorial Day and Labor Day to aid over eight million motorists, and cautions drivers that auto maintenance is key to avoiding summertime travel breakdowns. Ensuring quality motor oil in your car is one way to prevent road trip problems.

There are some things you need to keep an eye on when getting a full service oil change. Things like making sure you get a receipt. Then double-check the receipt to confirm that the service provider poured the motor oil you asked for into your car or truck’s engine and that the oil meets your manufacturer’s recommendation.

Service-locators can be quick to offer discounted services to people who are looking to reduce their automotive maintenance costs. Make sure your service provider is pouring quality motor oil into your car before you decide on a cheaper deal.

I have a GREAT 8 point motor oil change checklist that you can download, print and take with you to your next oil change. I will also be taking this with us to our next oil change and then sharing a blog post with you about it. I also have a FABULOUS giveaway (below) of one $50 gift card towards an oil change!

Motor Oil Matters, or MOM, a new consumer education and industry watchdog program by the American Petroleum Institute, has been established to stress the benefits of quality licensed motor oils and call on to the carpet those who engage in deceptive practices.
