I previously reviewed some of the Paradise series by Deborah Brown. Due to illness, we sat out the latest part of the series, Murder In Paradise by Deborah Brown, but I wanted to share the book with you. To go along with the book details, I also have a guest review from Crystal Beck. (Thanks Crystal! – love her name 😀 )
Guest Review From Crystal Beck
Main girl Madison is the zany, slightly out-there star of this gripping mystery, along with her best friend Fab. Fab’s ex-husband showing up in town brings back Fab’s criminal past in France, and things only go down hill from there when her ex turns up murdered and Fab is framed for it.
Madison definitely has something to prove, with her quest to become a licensed private investigator and her constant involvement in dangerous situations. But, she has the friends and connections to make it through most of the tight spots without too much trouble, and she holds her own often enough that her friends and family have plenty of time for their own lives outside of helping Madison with hers.
A few romantic twists are involved in the book, just enough for it to give some flavor and realism to the story and characters, but not so much that it because just another love story with a mystery on the side.
This book is technically part of a series, and is, I believe, book four. That said, I haven’t read any of the other books in the series and didn’t really feel the lack. A few of the basic relationships and names might be easier to sort out in the first couple of chapters if you have read the previous books, but it isn’t too convoluted to figure out on your own after just a little reading, so this book can certainly be read as a stand alone as well as part of a larger series.
Overall, this is a well written book. The characters seemed real (though I felt a few of them could have used a little more fleshing out), the problems laughably true to life, and the mystery was interesting enough to keep you hooked.

“The series is addictive, hot, fun, can’t-put-em-down reads.”
“Great as stand-alone reads, but they’re like chips…you won’t be able to devour just one!”
“Reminds me of Sin City: everyone leads a double life, women pack handguns, all have secrets, and nothing is wholesome.”

About the Author
I’ve been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; writing poetry, short stories, a romance novel secretly stashed under the bed and sappy love letters. Fiction should be fun. I wanted to create the perfect beach book, to make the reader laugh, cry and cheer… and then run out and tell their friends about it.
My love of reading began when I was seven, the day I opened the cover of my first Mrs. Piggle Wiggle book. Mrs. P gave lessons to other children in how to behave and to me I learned to love the written word. I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.
