Projection Alarm Clock: Don’t Oversleep When You Tent Camp

Clay and I have not been camping in over 20 years. Our kids have never been so we decided to change that this year. In a few weeks we are finally going on a family camping trip! My sis-in-law found us a site and we are taking the plunge. I’m actually really excited! We’re not primitive camping like my parents did when I was little but we’re not fully “glamping” either. We’ll have a few bonus necessities. I got us a projection alarm clock: Intelli-Time Projection Clock with Outdoor Temperature and USB Charger by AcuRite.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary unit to test out on our upcoming camping trip. All opinions are strictly my own.

I don’t really figure I’ll get much sleep but in case I’m worn out enough to actually fall asleep,  I don’t want to oversleep in the morning. I also don’t want to not know what time it is when I undoubtedly wake in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

I could just use my phone to see what time it is but I like the idea of this clock because it can project the time on the ceiling or wall. This is great for tent camping with the kids because it allows them to see the time in the night and it also provides a little light so it works sort of like a night light. I think this will help calm any nerves about sleeping outdoors.

The projection has two color options, red and amber. I love the amber color. It is bright enough to see without irritating my eyes. It shines so well on the tent! The projection clock can be tilted 180° so it can shine on the ceiling or wall and can be flipped when you switch it to the other side of the room. You can set it to display wither the time or current temperature and there is a dial that lets you set the focus for easier reading of the projected display.

Along with the projection, the AcuRite Projection Alarm Clock is so cool and has several really neat features. It has a built-in USB charger so I can keep our phones charged.

It also has a temperature gauge that shows both the indoor and outdoor temperature. This will show me how well our tent fan is working. It also shows the current moon phase. Our daughter did a month long project on moon phases at school last year. This alarm clock would have really come in handy then!

For the temperature reading there is a wireless temperature and humidity sensor that is weather resistant. The wireless range is up to up to 330 feet.

It also has an alarm clock that can be set for every day or just weekend use. That’s a pretty cool feature. It is really easy to set using the settings button and up/down buttons on the right hand side. The alarm sound can’t really be adjusted so you sort of get what you get with that. When the clock is not set you see a blank area with the words “off” at the top. When it is set you see the alarm time as well as the days it is set for. The alarm switch is on the side and it has a snooze button on the top.

I chose this particular clock thinking it could run solely on battery power but it doesn’t. It does use batteries as a backup in case of power outage but it typically has to be plugged in to function. It would be perfect for travel when staying in a hotel, condo, cabin or house rental. Anywhere with a wall plug.

When it is on battery power, the time will fade out into a sleep mode and you use the snooze button on the top to “wake it up”. You can use the projector with this as well and the time will project when you push the snooze button, then it will fade out in a few seconds. We have a rechargeable generator that we can plug it in to but I may try it with just the batteries the couple of days we’ll be camping just to see how it does. If I have to  I can always plug it in.

The clock unit is really lightweight. It is 5-inch height x 5.4-inch width x 2.4-inch depth so it is a great size that isn’t too big to sit on a night stand. The buttons are a good size and very easy to use. The instructions included are very easy to follow but you could figure out how to use this clock even without them even with all the buttons, bells and whistles.
