Planning Tips For A Family Road Trip

OnePoll’s survey on behalf of the car rental company, Sixt, revealed that classic family road trips are still popular, with 4 in 10 Americans opting to spend quality time with their family. However, parents often have a strict three-day limit for traveling to avoid at least six car arguments during the journey, according to Travel Agent Central. Although the thought of spending a few hours straight with your entire family in a car might cause anxiety, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. If you follow the golden rules of planning a road trip with kids, family road trips are an exciting way to reconnect with one another and create memories.

Planning Tips For A Family Road Trip

Map a Route with Multiple Stops

Mapping family-friendly road trip routes, in advance, including night stops, makes the journey less stressful. It helps you to plan for pit stops after every few hours to allow kids outdoor fun activities and let you take a break from the wheel. Take advantage of GPS and mapping apps like Google Maps on your phone to plan a route that allows you the pleasure to drive along routes with scenic views. Nonetheless, carry with you a paper map in case your GPS and the Internet connection become unreliable on some roads.

Choose the Right Car

It is easy to assume that all cars are suitable for a road trip. But that is not always the case, as some models are more reliable compared to others. With this in mind, spend some time reviewing consumer feedback and car ratings online. This move will help you identify the best automobile choices for family road trips. When comparing cars, make sure to select a vehicle with the right size, safety features, and high dependability levels to enhance comfort and safety.

Don’t Overlook Car Entertainment and Outdoor Fun

Avoid a meltdown or car arguments by engaging everyone in car games. Create a list of road trip games such as a scavenger hunt, car bingo, movie game, A-Z, and license plate number game. Alternatively, create a playlist you can sing along to in the car. It would also be helpful if you did a web search for fun activities to do along your route. That way, you can have multiple stops and plenty of amazing things like swimming, hiking, or rock climbing to break from the monotonous driving.

Pack Smart

Packing essential items for a road trip is fundamental for an exciting journey. Remember to consider the age of the kids and weather conditions expected along the way. This way, you can pack the appropriate clothing and necessary items such as toys, food, water, toiletries, and a first aid kit. Although you can buy snacks and disposable diapers along the way, it is wise to pack enough to get everyone through long drives without stores nearby.

Safety and comfort should be at the top of your list. Make sure everyone is wearing seat belts, and kids are sitting comfortably in child safety seats while traveling. Also, plan for stops after every two hours to stay focused and allow time to explore and play.
