#BuzzedDriving IS Drunk Driving! Stay SAFE this #Thanksgiving! Put LIFE before #alcohol!

buzzeddrivinglogo.jpgI enjoy a glass of wine or a mixed drink now and then. I have also been intoxicated. I’m not perfect. I know what it feel like to be drunk. I also know what a buzz feel like. Every year, I write about the “Buzzed driving is drunk driving campaign”. I do this because I feel like there are many people out there that still don’t understand this. I do this in the hopes of saving even one life. Yes, I said saving a life.

I want you to please sit there for a second and think about something. If you have ever consumed alcohol, I want you to sit there and honestly visualize and remember what you felt like after only a couple of drinks, when that little buzz started to kick in. Now think about how you acted. Were you giggly? Maybe a little dizzy? Even getting the giggles after a few drinks means that you have then been impaired by the alcohol you consumed. Even that little bit of impairment is enough to inhibit your judgement when driving. That little bit of impairment combined with your inhibited driving judgement can cause an accident and KILL someone. Possibly a child or a pregnant woman, a mother, a father a grandfather.

Isn’t a life worth choosing to stay where you are or to get a cab or designated driver?

In 2009, there were 411 motor vehicle traffic fatalities on our nation’s highways during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Whether at a Thanksgiving dinner or catching up with hometown friends, many of us will be on the road this Thanksgiving weekend. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Ad Council are reminding everyone that the best way to stay safe is to plan ahead and designate a sober driver before you head out for your festivities. This Thanksgiving, help spread the joy; give thanks to life by not driving impaired.
