As you all know, we love to travel to Tennessee. I talk about it. A lot. And when we do, we rent a cabin with a full kitchen. That way, we can prepare the majority of our meals there and save money. When you travel as a large group, or even with just the six of us, meal preparation is a big deal. We want things that are quick and easy to prepare. So for breakfast, cereal, fruit or doughnuts are usually part of the menu. But we always try to have a good, homecooked breakfast at least once during our stay. Especially when you are going to be out and about doing travel activities. That extra protein really gives you energy for the day.
I am NOT good at cooking breakfast foods. So the one breakfast meal always falls on someone else. And I feel bad about that. I can cook. I love to cook. And I help out with the other meals but it’s usually them men grilling for those meals so I feel like I need to contribute more to the breakfast meal. I don’t know why, but sausage, bacon and eggs (other than scrambled) and I do not get along well in the kitchen. I can make biscuits that will make you “smack yer mama” but other breakfast foods, nuh uh. Ain’t happenin’. No matter what the temperature of the skillet is or if I use one of those grease screens, bacon and sausage ALWAYS pop me in the face and hands. It’s like the grease targets me or something. I can’t really explain it. And breakfast gravy. You don’t want mine. Believe me. You DON’T want it! I do, however, have one awesomesauce breakfast dish that I can add to the line up and that is Breakfast Burritos or a Sausage Scramble. Clay no longer has to cook the sausage for me and it’s all thanks to Tyson Fully Cooked Sausage. #DoItAllMom
Sam’s Club has these fabulous packages of Tyson Fully Cooked Sausage patties. They are pre-cooked and you can either warm them in the skillet for 2 – 2/12 minutes per side or do a couple at a time in the microwave. For our Breakfast Burritos, I do them in the skillet. They give off a little grease which is perfect for cooking the scrambled eggs but not enough to pop me in the face! Yeah baby!
So, how did I find out about these awesome breakfast savers? Well, I’ll tell ya.
Sam’s had a sausage & biscuit demo of these sausages this past weekend and I thought they would be perfect for quick and easy breakfast burritos. But I really wondered how the Tyson Fully Cooked Sausage would taste and what the texture would be. The great thing about these demo’s is that you can sample them before buying so you know ahead of time if you’ll like them. And my super duper picky eaters were with us that day so it was a perfect opportunity! I let the kids try them too. That way I’d know if they were worth buying.
So, how does it taste? Did the kids like them?
OH. MY. GOODNESS. The sausage is really good! The texture isn’t mushy or mealy. It is just downright, tasty sausage. The kids LOVED it! And I can prepare it!
So, we went ahead and bought some and decided to give them a try before Spring Break travel so we could see how they did in the Breakfast Burritos before serving them up to a group. I bought some bell pepper, onion and tomatoes. I also bought some shredded cheese, jalapenos and Picante sauce as well as eggs and flour tortillas.
We decided to have breakfast for supper. So I came home, warmed my tortillas, heated up the sausage, lightly sauteed the peppers and onions and scrambled the eggs.
Then we proceeded to assemble our burritos. I like to serve everything buffet style so that everyone can add what they like and leave out what they don’t. My girls are really picky and not everyone in the world loved bell peppers and onions or jalapenos so it just makes it easier to combine the eggs and sausage, then put everything else in their own separate bowls.
We all made our burritos with just what we wanted inside, rolled them up and dug in. They were perfect!
As for the sausage itself,
There is zero grams trans fat, no artificial flavors, no fillers, no added ingredients. They are minimally processed. So they are just downright better!
At Sam’s you get a 64 ounce bag which is 4 pounds for about $11. So for a large group of 14 – 20 people like we usually have, this is perfect. The patties are really big and you get about 30 that are divided up into 2 zip-seal bags. So you don’t have to use them all at one time.
These sausage patties are a real time saver for us not only on vacation , but here at home too. Since I pretty much stink at good breakfast, the kids always get cereal. Now, I can heat up a couple of these sausage patties and some biscuits that I made and froze and they can have a nice, warm, protein packed breakfast to start their day!
