See that big red push pin up there? I LOVE that pin! That red pin symbolizes something very dear to my heart. The end of child hunger. It is the logo for ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Ends Here campaign and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I watched my mom basically starve to death. Hers was due to health reasons. She has major blockages in her intestines from radiation therapy damage and couldn’t absorb nutrients or keep food down. It broke my heart to see her want to eat. To know that all she wanted was some good food and nourishment but that she couldn’t hold it in. The last few weeks of her life, the moment she swallowed it would literally just come right back up. Food, waer, medications… it didn’t matter. They could only go so far before being blocked and brought back up. I watched her starve in a sense and swore that if there was anything… ANYTHING in my power to help someone else, especially a child, never go hungry, I would do it.
Let’s talk a little about child hunger and the Child Hunger Ends Here program.
Did you know that child hunger in America is an epidemic? And the problem with it is that you don’t always physically see that a child is starving so it often times go unnoticed. Many people think of child hunger as a poverty issue and that is not the case. It’s not only poverty stricken areas that are suffering. Your very own next door neighbor could be without food. With lay offs and no work, many, MANY people are starving right now. Right here in America. Just because you live in a nicer subdivision doesn’t mean that hunger isn’t near you. Do you know for a fact that each of your neighbors has plenty of food to eat? Do you know for a fact that your childs best friend has a meal to go home to at night?

During the school year, 21.5 million children rely on free or reduced-price meals to help them keep from going hungry. When school is out, only 2.3 million children participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This means there are millions of children at an increased risk of hunger during the summer. You can help by purchasing participating ConAgra Foods products and entering those codes to trigger meal donations.
