Our Fall Vacation With Fireside Chalets Luxury Cabin Rentals

Blogging In The Smokies

I told you awhile back that we were going to be going to a luxury cabin for the fall. I finally got all my pictures off my phone! I apologize in advance for the quality of some of them. It was really rainy and foggy the entire time we were in Tennessee (except the day we came home) so I couldn’t seem to get good lighting. Some of mine had to be brightened up some.

I love traveling in the fall. It my absolute most favorite time of the year with all the colors and cooler temperatures, bon fires and S’mores! My most favorite part is going to Tennessee. Every spring and fall, my husband (Clay), kids and I along with some of Clay’s extended family take a trip to Tennessee to see the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoy being together. We rent one or two (depending on how many go) cabins. Renting a cabin is so much more affordable then staying in a hotel. When you have 20+ people, you can find the perfect cabin or two, split the cost of lodging and food and really only pay full price for your gas. You can even get discounts on many of the attractions because you are a large group.

We have stayed with a couple different cabin rental companies but this year, we wanted to try a deluxe/luxury Cabin and Fireside Chalet and Cabin Rentals had the PERFECT ones for us. Initially, we reserved two cabins but some of our group had to cancel at the last minute so we canceled one of them. If you ever need to cancel (with any rental place), especially at the last minute, you will forfeit your deposit. But that is much better than having to still pay full price.

I look like a puffy marshmallow here, lol

First  I have to say that the reservation process was superb as was our stay. It was just getting to Tennessee that was a major headache. And that has nothing at all to do with the cabin or Fireside, it was just a part of our trip story! So, back to the cabin. I spoke with the reservations specialist, and she helped me pick out the perfect cabin for our group size and for what we were looking for. I didn’t get to meet her in person because she was on maternity leave. Congratulations on the new baby!!!

When we headed out the day of our vacation, everything was going great. Everyone was up and ready. We met up and managed to get going right and early to avoid Fall Break traffic. But somewhere along the way, things went screwy. We were going from Kentucky to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. When we got just past lake City,  got a call from my brother-n-law that their tire had blown out and they didn’t have a spare! So we turned around and headed back in their direction. M other brother-in-law called roadside assistance on his phone and once the guy got there, he informed them that RA only covered the first $50 and that it would be that just to load the car on the tow truck and he had to have the rest up front. That’s ridiculous!

This is part of our “convoy” and the tow guy on the side of the road.

So, my husband, our kids, his brother and I headed to the nearest Walmart to get a new tire. Then, once we got the tire on their car and went to take off, our battery had died and we had to be jump started. It took FOREVER to get back on the road and we were no longer early. We finally made it to Fireside’s check-in-office right at check-in time. Which was fine, we weren’t late but we didn’t get there early and have lunch and look around for awhile like we had wanted. Oh well, at least we made it!

The check-in/check-out was quick and easy. The staff was so nice and gave us directions to the cabin. Our key code was wrong so once we got there we had a little trouble disarming the security alarm, but as soon as it went off, they had a guy from the security place come and check it out. He was there and we were in and unpacking within 5 minutes. We didn’t have any problems during our stay. Everything worked. So that one and only problem was resolved quickly and efficiently. A+ service!

The luxury cabin we kept is called A Cabin Of Dreams and it certainly is! “A Cabin of Dreams” is a 4 bedroom deluxe cabin that sleeps up to 12 people.Deluxe cabins are a bit pricier than other cabins. They feature more amenities, are generally larger and have newer accessories and fixtures. They are just, basically, “fancier” than regular cabins. And if you do like we did and go in a group, splitting the cost, they can be really affordable too!

It had a pool table, hot tub and theater room with a HUGE screen. That was the main attraction for us. We have kids so that made the time spent at the cabin even more fun for them. Not only did we watch movies and grub on pop-corn, we also hooked up the karaoke machine and belted out some tunes with the lyrics on that big screen. It was AWESOME!

We visited a few attractions during the day but it was really foggy and cold. You’ll get that in the mountains. Especially in the fall and winter so we expected it.  That theater room was so perfect on those cold, rainy, foggy days. The hot tub was too! There is nothing better than soaking in a hot tub. The only bad part was having to get out in the cold! But it was worth it.

Kitchen

This kitchen was plenty big enough for us to cook our meals. We grilled all the meat on the grill out on the deck. But we still had side dishes that we cooked indoors and Clay and his mom cooked the best breakfast! The kitchen has plenty of cookware and utensils, bowls, plates, etc. WOW we took a huge box of Frosted Flakes! I just realized, looking at this picture, just how big that box was! lol Anyway, there is a coffee pot, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, etc. I didn’t see an electric can opener which was kind of strange but there were several hand held can openers so we were good.

Crystal & Clay (me and Hubby)

My husband and I had so much fun. We visited the Titanic, Circle G Ranch (blog posts about those coming next week!) and Cades Cove and we hiked to Clingman’s Dome. It was COLD up there. The ranger there said the wind chill was 15° – 20° which would have been fine but it was misty and foggy so we were all damp and cold when we got back. Being able to come back to the cabin and jump in the hot tub was SOOOOOO AWESOME!

The beds were fantastic too. Huge queen and king sized log beds with super soft mattresses. As you can see, we were all so tired when we got to the cabin, we went to bed before I remembered to take photos! I made our bed up every morning like I do at home, but someone had taken a nap right before I came in and snapped the picture. This was our bedroom and it is in the lower level with the theater room and game/family room. There is also a bathroom down there.

The family/game room has a couch, tv and table with bar stools and also a section with the pool table. The theater room, bathroom and our room were all separate rooms. There is a huge deck outside and the hot tub is there too. Like I said, this cabin is a Luxury cabin and it is really big. It sleeps up to 12 people comfortably. Everyone had plenty of personal space. No one was bumping into someone else. All of the bedrooms were spaced out so you had privacy.

If you think staying in a deluxe/luxury cabin is out of your price range, do like we do. Go as a group. Tally the cost and figure out what it will be divided among all the paying adults. You will see that it IS doable! You can find specials on their website each month like the stay 4 get one night free deal AND if you aren’t planning on  doing a lot of attractions, then why not spend the money on the cabin. Weather didn’t permit us to do much outside, so we paid for a deluxe cabin through Fireside Chalet and Cabin Rentals and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I learned that one of my girlfriends that vacationed with us has used Fireside Chalet and Cabin rentals in the past and they she loves using them. In fact, they are the ONLY company she ever rents through! I can’t quit gushing about this luxury cabin and company. It was Heaven! And I can’t wait to stay there again. Seriously, I’m ready to go NOW and would stay in ANY cabin at Fireside Chalet and Cabin Rentals!

Disclosure: Fireside Chalet and Cabin Rentals provided me with a discount on our stay as a thank you and to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

    • Tonya, we love the Smokies so much. I will never tire of visiting there! And this cabin was perfect for our family. The 4 bedrooms are spaced out so you have plenty of privacy. And there are sleeping couches in the game room and movie theater room.
I agree about the back too. I looked at the front, then walked around to photo the back and was like WHOA! 😀
