It absolutely breaks my heart to see my child sick. But when they are better and you see that first, bright-eyed smile, a mom’s heart just melts. There is nothing in this world better than knowing your child is healthy and on the mend. And nothing worse than seeing them sick and knowing there isn’t really much you can do to make them better. At least for pain or fever you can give them TYLENOL® to help make them comfortable.
Once the illness has passed, though, my kids always light up with the biggest smiles and start running around, playing, laughing and having fun. As a mom, that is the moment when I can breathe a sigh of relief that the worst is over.
A recent survey conducted on behalf of the makers of TYLENOL® discovered that 89% of moms with young children agree that there is nothing better than their child’s smile to let them know they are feeling better after a fever, cold or flu.
I remember last year, we were gearing up to head out on vacation. I always take photos of the kids each day the week leading up to vacation. I love to capture their excitement as we pack and get ready to travel. And they are always smiling and in such good moods. Last year, though, I just could not get our youngest daughter to smile when I was taking pictures. You can see in the photo on the top left that she seemed to be miserable. I noticed that she had some new molars coming in. She felt warm and had a low grade temperature. Those jaw teeth can cause so much misery when they are coming in. So I gave her some Children’s TYLENOL® and within a couple of hours she seemed to feel quite a bit better. The next day, she was still a little under the weather so I gave her some more TYLENOL® to help ease the teething pain. And the day before we left for our trip, she was back to her sweet, smiling self and didn’t need any medicine. During our trip she was fine and didn’t have any more trouble.
It makes me so sad to see one of my children sick or hurting. I can literally feel my heart ache for them. But when that smile returns, it’s like sunshine!!! I’d like to take my daughter’s smile and Smile It Forward! I have uploaded a photo on the SMILING IT FORWARD™ website.
I encourage you to also upload a photo that makes you smile. Be sure to leave me a comment below if you upload a photo. I’d love to see how many readers participate!

The makers of TYLENOL® were so inspired by the “feel better” smiles shared organically by moms across the country online that they’ve teamed up with How I Met Your Mother star and mom of two, Alyson Hannigan, to launch the SMILING IT FORWARD™ campaign. By sharing the first “smile” of her two daughters Satyana, 4, and Keeva, 1, Hannigan triggered the first donation from TYLENOL® to Children’s Health Fund, an organization well-known for its mobile medical clinics that provide healthcare services to underserved children throughout the U.S. Now, until mid-January, moms across the country can join in by sharing their own smiles at SmilingItForward.com, prompting TYLENOL® to make a $1 donation to Children’s Health Fund, up to $100,000, helping to ensure a doctor’s visit is always within reach for children in need. Together, they hope to set the power of giving in motion, inviting everyone to share smiles of good health to help children in need.
SMILING IT FORWARD™ makes it easy for people to join the movement. By sharing a photo that makes you smile at SmilingItForward.com, TYLENOL® will make a $1 donation to Children’s Health Fund, helping to ensure a doctor’s visit is always within reach for children in need.1
In addition to sharing photos at SmilingItForward.com, moms can go on the site to view the TYLENOL® Smile Gallery, learn more about Alyson Hannigan and Children’s Health Fund, and receive tips from leading pediatrician, Dr. Tanya Altmann, about keeping families smiling through cold and flu season.
