Designer Backpacks For School

Disclosure: I received a complimentary item for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Can you believe it’s time for school to start back? The kids start back here in a little over a week. I don’t feel like they’ve had any time to relax. But, time must go on and that means back to school. I have all the kids school supplies bought. We have a few clothes left to get them but that’s it.

Speaking of school supplies, the lists just seem to grow every year. Notebooks, paper, pencils, crayons, markers, pens and even things like paper towels and cleaning wipes. I remember taking a box of tissues to school each year when I was a kit but my mom sure never had to send in cleaning supplies! We do what we can. But those are last on our list to purchase. Basic and required supplies come first. One thing we do get the kids new each year is a backpack. They have to carry so much each year that they really get the wear and tear and barely make it through one school year. So a new backpack is a must when we buy school supplies.

One of our daughters loves bright, sparkly things. There are only a few things I’ll splurge on for back to school but I’ve learned that a backpack should be one. We learned the hard way that a backpack is one of those things where you really do “get what you pay for” too. Last year we bought the cheapest and they fell apart within a month, so we ended up have to replace them all which cost more money in the long run. This year, we decided to look for designer backpacks for school. Ones that were made with quality and would hold up all year. The backpack she picked out for this year is a different style than we typically buy. It’s horizontal instead of the usual vertical kind. She fell in love with the Bixbee “Sparkalicious” Kids Glitter Backpack in Turquoise but they’re pretty popular and were sold out so she decided to get the Bixbee Sparkalicious Kids Glitter Backpack – Ruby Raspberry instead. And she loves it!

I wanted to get the new style because last year, she complained of back pain at the end of the day. She had so much to carry. This style is said to offer more support by sitting at the waist line instead of below it like a lot of the long backpacks. In our photo, we hadn’t tightened the straps yet so it is sitting a little lower in the photo that it actually does. It fits her pretty well now that we’ve adjusted the straps. The straps are wide, though, and help distribute the weight. It also has an adjustable chest strap to secure the straps in place but that bugs her so she probably won’t use it as much. Mainly on days when she has a ton of stuff to carry.

The flap on the main part of the backpack it secured with velcro and then it lifts up and the main part is zippered for extra security. So her stuff won’t fall out and she doesn’t have to worry about anyone reaching in and grabbing her stuff or the zipper being open and stuff falling out.

Another thing that I like about this backpack is that the back and straps have mesh so they can breathe and she won’t get as hot while waiting for the bus. That adds quite a bit of comfort to a kids backpack. They are also certified PVC, BPA, Phthalate and lead free.

There are TONS of pockets on this thing! There’s a padded pocket for a laptop or tablet, pockets on the inside for pencils and pens and other school supplies. Because of the horizontal position of the backpack, it is super easy to get in there and get big binders out.  It easily holds all of her school supplies with plenty of room to spare.

There are also pockets on the outside for a cell phone and one on the strap to carry things like your lunch money in. There are adjustable and zippered pockets everywhere.

FUN FACT: For every backpack sold, Bixbee donates a backpack filled with school supplies to a child in need.

I really thing she is going to like using this backpack this year. I think it will help relieve any back pain caused from wearing a backpack filled with tons of school supplies each day. The color is bright and sparkly. It is a gorgeous backpack. I wish I had one to carry my laptop in! Mama can like blingy things too ya know?

We ordered her backpack from Bixbee and there are tons of different styles to choose from. They also have lunch boxes that match the backpacks as well as duffles, purses, wristlets and even t-shirts.

Backpacks start at $31.99

Have you bought your children’s backpacks yet? What do you look for in a kids backpack?

  1. I have a 9 year old who I think would love this bag in a dark blue if you make boy bags. He spends a lot of time with his grandmother and this bag will be perfect for hos weekends spent there and for school.
