DIY Face Serum Recipe Using Sweet Almond Oil

I want to keep my skin looking as healthy as possible. If that means it looks younger, even better! To do that I use essential oils, Sweet Almond oil and hyaluronic acid regularly. I also avoid consuming sugar as much as possible and drink at least 64 ounces of water per day.

With that said, one thing I love to use is a DIY face serum recipe I’ll share with you today. This recipe uses Sweet-almond oil, Frankincense and Myrrh: two sacred oils known throughout history for their many benefits. I like to add a little Bulgarian Lavender as well.

Viva Naturals Sweet Almond Oil

Benefits of sweet almond oil in skincare

Sweet almond oil is a popular ingredient in skincare products due to its numerous benefits. Here are some of the benefits of sweet-almond oil in skincare:

  1. Moisturizes the skin: rich in fatty acids, making it an excellent moisturizer for the skin. It helps to lock in moisture, keeping the skin hydrated and preventing dryness and flakiness.
  2. Soothes dry and irritated skin: The emollient properties make it beneficial for soothing dry and irritated skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. It can help relieve itching, redness, and inflammation.
  3. Improves complexion: Regular use can help improve the complexion and provide a natural glow to the skin. It helps to even out skin tone, reduce the appearance of dark spots and blemishes.
  4. Reduces signs of aging: contains antioxidants that help fight free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress. It can help reduce the signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.
  5. Softens and nourishes the skin: The nourishing properties can help soften and smooth the skin. It can enhance the skin’s texture, making it look and feel more supple.
  6. Helps in reducing dark circles: The vitamin E present in sweet almond oil helps in reducing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. Regularly massaging the oil gently around the eye area can help lighten the dark circles.
  7. Treats acne and breakouts: has antimicrobial properties and is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores. It can help prevent and treat acne and breakouts without causing further irritation.
  8. Improves the appearance of scars and stretch marks: The moisturizing and healing properties can help improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks. It can promote cell regeneration, making the skin more elastic and reducing the visibility of scars and stretch marks.
Viva Naturals Sweet Almond Oil

Overall, sweet-almond oil provides numerous benefits for the skin and is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin. It is often used as a base oil in many skincare products, or can be applied directly to the skin as a moisturizer or massage oil.

NOTE: You may need to avoid this oil if you have nut allergies.

I prefer sweet-almond oil for facial products. It is lightweight, non-comedogenic and absorbs quickly. For anything chest and up, sweet-almond oil is the way to go! It is always the first carrier oil I choose when making face serums and roll-ons.

My absolute favorite brand of Sweet-Almond Oil is Viva Naturals. I use this brand almost exclusively. If I run out, I may substitute it, but unless that happens, Viva Naturals Sweet Almond Oil is my tried and true.

The Viva Naturals brand comes in a large 16 ounce oil-safe plastic bottle with a pump that can be used for easier dispensing. I LOVE THE PUMP! It makes it so easy to fill my serum bottles, roll-ons, etc. and makes it easier to measure just how much my recipe needs.

Viva Naturals Sweet-Almond Oil is expeller-pressed from the almonds of the sweet almond tree grown in California. Yes, this product is grown and bottled in the USA! The expeller-pressed process means no hexanes are used during extraction. It is also fragrance free & non-GMO Project Verified. I appreciate that it is non-GMO. It is also NOT tested on animals.

There is only ONE ingredient:

Ingredients: Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil

I prefer my carrier oils to be fragrance free so they don’t overpower the other ingredients. There is almost no smell to this oil. The fragrance is very light, sweet and nutty. It is lightweight and absorbs quickly without leaving a heavy, oily residue on my skin. This makes it perfect for facial applications. I can even use it, alone, as a make-up remover! I just soak a cotton pad and rub it over my face to remove my makeup. Easy and done.

Ok, so I mentioned my DIY Face Serum recipe uses Frankincense essential oil, Myrrh essential oil and Bulgarian Lavender essential oil along with the sweet almond. Each of these three essential oils offer several benefits to the skin including overall skin-soothing abilities.

That’s why I included these specific oils in my serum. There are MANY others that can be used but, to keep it easy and cost effective, these are the ones I use and have good results with.

Here are the benefits of each oil:

Instructions

  • Add Frankincense essential oil to clean, empty serum bottle.

  • Add Bulgarian Lavender to the other oils.
  • Swirl oils to combine.
  • Top off with Sweet Almond Oil.
  • Add dropper lid and gently tilt bottle back and forth to mix.
  • Before bed, apply 1 – 2 drops to clean, dry hands and rub together slightly to disperse.
  • Then pat onto clean, dry face, gently patting into the skin until fully absorbed.
  • Follow with your favorite moisturizer, if desired.

Notes

If you don't have the lavender, you can leave it out but it smells so good! It also helps cut the more herbal-woody scent of the Frankincense and Myrrh and lends nicely to the slightly nutty scent of the sweet almond oil. I really like the addition, plus it adds additional benefits to the serum!
