She came to America searching for her brother. Instead all she’s found is a web of danger.
Cara Hamilton had thought her brother to be dead. Now, clutching his letter, she leaves Ireland for America, desperate to find him. Her search leads her to a houseful of curious strangers, and one man who claims to be a friend–Rourke Walsh. Despite her brother’s warning, Cara trusts Rourke, revealing her purpose in coming to New York.
She’s then thrust into a world of subterfuge, veiled threats, and attempted murder, including political revolutionaries from the homeland out for revenge. Her questions guide her ever nearer to locating her brother–but they also bring her closer to destruction as those who want to kill him track her footsteps.
With her faith in tatters, all hope flees. Will her brother finally surface? Can he save Cara from the truth about Rourke… a man she’s grown to love?
My Thoughts:
I fell in love with Cara from the get-go. She is one of those characters that is full of vulnerability yet tough and independent. She was able to set out on a journey to a new country in search of a brother she thought dead.
Rourke is one of the characters that is devoted to seeking revenge but you still can’t help but root for him. He has an idea of who Cara is yet he still wants to care for her and wish her identity away. I really liked Rourke in this story and found myself hoping for him and Cara to be together. Hoping for him to be wrong about her brother and hoping that things would work out for them all.
No Safe Harbor is another one of those stories that has tons of mystery and just the right amount of romance to keep you interested. The “bad guys” aren’t always who they seem and sometimes… neither are the “good guys”!
I read this book in one sitting. Not because it was short and boring but because it was mind-capturing and I couldn’t put it down! I couldn’t wait to see if Cara found her brother alive and well. I wanted Rourke to turn out to be a good guy that was meant for Cara. And I couldn’t wait to hear the stories of the other ladies in the house and see how they may play into the story.
No Safe Harbor is another must read in my opinion and is going on the Cinnamon Hollow 2012 Holiday Gift Guide!
