Don’t Let Mosquitoes Ruin Your Outdoor Activities

Tent Camping Must Haves

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I despise mosquitoes. nasty little blood suckers! For some reason, I seem to attract them more than anyone else around me. I’m like a mosquito magnet. I can’t be outside unless I’m slathered in bug spray and I hate it.

With my allergies, certain fragrances send me into a massive migraine and citronella is one of those scents. Since that is a common ingredient in natural mosquito repellents, I can’t go that route. So I’m stuck with chemicals and many of those have fragrances that make my head hurt.

When we are not hiking in the woods and are enjoying the outdoors at home, camping, a bar-b-cue or picnic, I have something that works even better! Something that lets me enjoy being outdoors with my family without being slathered in chemical mosquito repellents.

Repel Mosquitoes: Thermacell Bristol Mosquito Repeller Lantern

Disclosure: As a member of the US Family Guide, I received a complimentary Thermacell lantern as a thank you for posting. All opinions are my own and were formed through personal testing of the product. Your results may vary from mine.

My Thermacell Bristol Lantern does the trick! I mentioned Thermacell and how much I love the lanterns a few years ago. We used our old one when watching 4th of July fireworks and it worked great! My initial impression has not changed. They work. Period.

To use the Thermacell Bristol Lantern, you simply insert the butane cartridge into the bottom of the lantern…

Then place a repellent pad in the top, beneath the grill, turn the dial lid to “on”, wait a few seconds, then turn it to “start”. It will click and turn back to the “on” position. Check in the little hole for the orange glow to show it has lit and you are all set. It’s really easy and there is no open flame.

Once it has ignited, the repellent pad will begin to warm. Be careful because the top where the grill is does get hot. Within 15 minutes, mosquitoes, black flies and other flying insects are being repelled and you can enjoy your outdoor space bug free in a 15×15 foot area. That’s pretty good coverage. It protects our entire deck area.

I haven’t noticed any aroma. No smoking and the flame is self contained. The little lantern just sits there doing its job without disturbing anyone around it.

I found that these work better at repelling when set on the ground versus up on a table top or hanging. For me, personally, when it was on a table, anything below the table still got mosquito bites and everything above was protected. So I like to use one on the ground just as a mosquito repellent and one on the table for additional repelling and also as a light.

It uses 3 AAA batteries (not included) for the light. The LED light is fairly bright and works really well to light the table, tent site, etc.

We have been using out Thermacell Bristol Lantern to repel mosquitoes, in the evenings, when Clay is grilling outside and haven’t had the first mosquito bite! I plan on, once again, using our lantern during the 4th of July, at our daughters upcoming outdoor birthday party and at every cookout, camping trip, etc that we have.

No more mosquitoes bites during outdoor evenings for me!
