Disclosure: We received a complimentary KISS InstaWave curler as a member of Brand Backer. All opinions are strictly our own formed through personal testing. Individual results may vary.
Our oldest daughter and I love to curl our hair and get glammed up and we’ve found that the KISS InstaWave hair curler helps us do that quickly and easily! The KISS InstaWave is super easy to use but it does take a couple of times to really get the hang of it, especially if you’re used to curing your hair “the old fashioned way” with a typical curling iron. This is NOT your typical curling iron.
What Is The KISS InstaWave Hair Curler?
KISS InstaWave is a fully automatic tangle-free curler that instantly creates beautiful curls with the push of a button. It grabs the strand of hair and rotates it around the curling wand, holding it in place and setting the curl.
The KISS InstWave uses Ceramic Ionic Technology to help protect your hair while giving you tight curls and shiny hair. It features two heat setting (low and high) with the hottest setting reaching a maximum temperature of 420° F. It gets HOT so avoid letting it touch your face, ears, head, etc. Keep it a couple inches away from your head for safety. I also don’t recommend letting younger girls use this curler alone. Our daughter is a tween and I use it on her hair myself. It also has a 90 minute auto shut-off safety feature to ensure it isn’t left on by mistake. I love that bonus feature!
How Do You Use It?
Ok, it’s simple! First, I always treat my hair with a product that helps protect it from heat styling. Then brush it out really well and proceed with styling my hair. We’ve also included a video below showing how we use the KISS InstaWave and our results.
Plug your wand in and turn it on. High for tight curls and low for looser curls. It is ready when the red light turns blue.
Now, start by sectioning your hair off, pulling the top layer up into a clip.
Next, you grab a 1 inch section of your hair and hold it out slightly away from your head.
Hold the KISS InstaWave vertically and slightly angled towards your head a couple inches away. It gets HOT to don’t hold it too close to your head or face.
For curls framing your face, hold your hair in front of the wand and push the button so it curls your hair toward your face, otherwise, place your hair behind the wand and push the button to curl your hair away from your face. I prefer to curl my hair away from my face.
I also like to alternate my curls for a more natural look. This tip is also given on the Kiss InstaWave site.
Once you push the button to begin curling your hair, hold it until the ends are tightly wound. For a loose, beachy look, hold in place for about 3 seconds and then pull the wand straight down to release the hair. For tight, bouncy spiral curls, hold the wand in place for 8 – 10 seconds, then pull straight down. My hair is super hard to curl so I hold it for a full 10 seconds and get perfect curls every time.
*Tip: Switch between curling right and curling left to create the most natural looking curls.
Once you’ve finished with the bottom layer, pull it back into a LOOSE pony tail or clip and begin on the top section. Once you are done you can flip your hair over and back to sort of blend the curls and set them into place. You can also VERY GENTLY finger comb them for a natural wavy look. Then give it a spritz with hair spray and you’re all set!

Because it features a Curl Dial with left/right curl directions, it is easy for anyone to use, from any angle, with any hand. You can push the button to the left or right to change the direction it curls. If your hair does happen to tangle, most likely because you’ve accidentally grabbed another section while curling, just push the button the other way to release the curl and begin again. It’s super easy.
The KISS InstaWave hair curler is available at Target, Ulta, or Amazon.com.
The suggested retail price is $59.99
So Did We Like It?
Actually, we loved it! It is so easy to use and I was able to curl my hair and even my oldest daughters hair in a matter of minutes. My arms didn’t get tired like they do holding a curling iron up. The KISS InstaWave does all the work. You literally just hold up a section of hair and push a button.
It took about 2 minutes to heat up and about 10 – 15 minutes to curl my hair. Super easy! The KISS InstaWave does emit a slight ringing sound or a hum when you plug it up, even before it is turned on. I’ve been informed by the folks at KISS that this is perfectly normal and totally safe. It is simply the circuit to drive the motor and make it spin. It does not pose a safety issue.
If you’re looking for an easy way to get gorgeous curls, we’re recommending the KISS InstaWave automatic curler on our 2014 Holiday Gift Guide. It’s quick and easy. But remember, it is for adults to use, not children. It does get hot so use with caution.
