My daughter and I were able to make 5 DIY beeswax candles in less than 10 minutes! They were so simple and fun to make! I didn’t even have this month’s recipe box. I skipped it because I already had all the ingredients from the box except the beeswax sheets. So, I just placed an order for those and we made them on our own. The recipe in the August box called for cassia essential oil. We have that oil but wanted to use something else. I used a blend made from a past box, called Autumn Air and my daughter used that plus a couple more drops of lemon essential oil. Our candles smell so good and autumnal!

*NOTE* Essential oils do not have the same type of scent throw as fragrance oils so you will only get a very mild fragrance from your candles. You will, however, get the aromatherapy benefits from the oils. Because these oils are NOT being diluted in this recipe, wear gloves when handling and use with caution. Also note that essential oils ARE flammable so you’ll want to blot the excess oils off the wax and roll them to the inside.

The DIY Beeswax Candle Kit comes with 3 beeswax sheets and a string of cotton wick. When you make your beeswax candles, you’ll want your beeswax sheets to be slightly warm. If it’s too cool to roll without cracking, hold it in your hands or use a blow dryer on low until it’s a bit warmer and pliable.

How To Make DIY Beeswax Candles

  • Determine if you want a long taper candle or a shorter pillar shaped candle. (you can add more than 1 piece of wax to your candle)
  • Lay your beeswax sheets on a table and stretch your cotton wick to the length plus 1/4 inch of your wax and trim it.
  • If you are adding oils to your candle, place a couple drops across the wax sheet and blot excess with a paper towel. I forgot to take a photo of the blotting step. It will disperse your oils across the wax a bit more but it mainly just soaks up any excess.
  • Put gloves on and roll your wax around your wick. Continue rolling until your candle is finished.
  • Press the edges in to finish off your candle.

That’s it! That’s literally all you have to do to make taper or pillar beeswax candles!

My daughter added a 2nd piece to her shorter candle and then shaped it into a heart. She made a heart shaped pillar and it is adorable!
